Diablo 2 ISO

Hi, I'm trying to run Diablo 2: LOD from an iso image I have on a virtual drive. I'm using Daemon tools to make the virtual drive and mount the .iso. The program starts, runs the setup automatically like it's supposed to, but when I tell it to play, it says to make sure the cd is in the CD-ROM drive and press retry. Please please help =(

It breaches Battlenets terms of use agreement by using a different start program to load diablo 2.

And as such these cant really be discussed here - However if you wanted to use it on say open battlenet and or single player then I would be inclined to try D2Loader - naturally the website cant be posted here but you could google it.

The reason why D2 uses a CD is to prevent people from using non-legit copies as many ppl could possibly just install a copy on their computer and not have a legit CD.

No it doesn't, the game is started up exactly the same way as if you were using a CD in a CD-Drive.

What a virtual drive is doing, is essentially just making a burned copy of the D2 CD that you can use to play. There is nothing about this in the ToU as far as I know.

Is there any particular reason why you can't just use the CD to install and play the game? Why go to so much effort just to play without a CD?

For me, it's because the game sometimes has to load from the CD, whether it's movies or music or death animations or whatever, and it lags a lot while it starts up the CD in my drive. My drive is quite a few years old, so it's not very fast at all. Switching to using a vitual drive saved me from a whole lot of machine lag.

Besides that, I can always let the virtual CD sit on the virtual drive and use my real drives for other things (such as music).

It's very convenient.

Heh, it's not out yet, but there are beta weekend events for every first week of every month. Stores that have games should have a preorder package you can get for $5 or $10. Join up with the guild!

Anyways, going WAY off topic here.

Personally, I want to do something like this so I don't have to leave the CD in the drive and get it worn out. The drive is old, the computer's hot, and I want to be able to use my D2 CDs for years to come. I could also then keep a different game in the drive so I don't have to swap things around. It's worth the effort.

I'm also interested in this because my CD drive is unbelievably slow and I have a lot of space on my HD to store the CD image. My game lags for about 45 seconds after a boss dies while the CD is grinding away and I end up with no loot. I use Daemon Tools to mount the image but I guess I need some sort of loader too? I don't know much about this and I'm nervous about getting a virus or having my CD key sent to someone. Any help?

I'll answer your post here, instead of a PM reply.

All you need is a program to make the image of the CD, and a virtual drive program, which you already have (Daemon Tools). Use Nero, CloneCD, or one of the Alcohol programs (Alcohol 120% or Alcohol 52%) to burn an image of the CD. Then, just load it with Daemon Tools, and play just as if you had the CD in your regular drive. No loader or any D2-specific programs are required, so you don't need to worry about your CD-Key.

Alright thanks, an earlier post confused me a little about mentioning some sort of loader so I figured it was required. Also, I'm having a bit of a fight with Nero. I select "copy" and make the .iso, but when I don't put in a blank CD for the copy and exit the program my iso is deleted.

edit: Alright, I solved it by making a copy of the iso before Nero deleted it. Now I mounted the image and attempted to play, but a window pops up about "Please insert your Diablo 2 CD to play." Did I do something wrong with making the CD image? I hit 'Auto Play' on the virtual drive to start up LoD. Thanks for your help :)

Yeah, an image I guess would be fine. I dont see anything specifically wrong with that - especially if you own a legit copie.

Sorry, I was talking about loader programs ( like D2Loader) which lets you run 2 copies at the same time which are becomming more popular these days , these types of programs I believe breache your terms of use.

There is no need to make a virtual copy of the cd. Just copy the MUSIC file from the LOD cd to your d2 folder. Then once you have d2 loaded just eject the cd. The music file is the only file you need to copy over. You will need the cd in to start up d2 but then you can eject it.

First, make sure you're selecting to burn to the "Image Drive" in nero, instead of a CD. Second, try enabling all the options in the 'Emulation' menu option of Daemon Tools. If that doesn't work, nero probably messed up in making the CD somehow. Try another program.

By the way, the image file you make doesn't necessarily have to be an ISO file. I know nero usually makes NRG files, and there are number of others that Daemon Tools can load. My D2 image is a CCD file, for example.

Thanks again, it works perfectly! I forgot about activating those options on Daemon Tools. :)
