Dex or Vit?

Dex or Vit?

From what I gather, people never put points into energy, even though necros get a better deal than most for investments in energy. So far, I havent put any in and am surviving. But am now unsure where to spend em. Here are my thoughts and problems:

I have a level 81 necro in SP with about 80 stat points saved.
I have a level 25 necro on bnet, my first and only char there, with 25 points saved.

My main question is: Vit or Dex? But I need some help answering because I cant gauge all the parameters. Here's the deal:

- Strength enough to equip my gear. Sure. But since I am not twinked, I have no idea what my end gear will be. I know I am not shooting for Stormshield, I'd much rather have Homunculus, but who knows if I will ever get it. I have no idea what armor I will end up wearing. Currently wearing some Ornate Plate on my 81 SP necro and socketed leather armor (!) on my 25 ladder. But I dont know what I am going to need, probably not more than what I need for Ornate Plate, right? But I am unsure, just dont want to jerk myself too soon.
- Dex: On my SP necro, I had no clue, it was also my first char, and I ended up spending some points here and there as I noticed my block dropped off. Now I have a Rhyme grim shield, and I think I have a 36% chance to block with 99 dex (after items boosts). But I dont know how much more I have to pump in to get a better block, and whether it is worth it, or better to just spend it on vit.

Same for my bnet 25 necro, except that he doesnt have much of anything yet, although he will also wear a Rhyme, I am sure, and hope for a homunculus. But I'd like to plan a little bit more in advance, and also like to spend some of my points and not save them till 80.

Any advice?

thanks so much

Heya,

You have zero use of Dex unless you're blocking, beyond certain items that you may want to use that require Dex. If you want blocking, you will need a high blocking shield, and you will need to invest heavily into dex. You'll likely have 150+ dex by level 80 to retain 75% block on the highest blocking shields (like Whinstans, etc).

Consider this: 1 Vit = 2 Hp. 100 Vit = 200 Hp. That's all you get for your 100 stat points. 200 Hp in hell is a laughable thing. That's one hit from something. Meanwhile, those 100 points in Dex with a high blocking shield means against a physical attack, 75% of the time, you just ignore it and block. If you have to make a choice, I'd rather have 600 life and 75% block than 800~900 life and zero block. But this greatly depends on the build. As a Fishy, I have zero reason to have block, so I have pure Vit, and it's fine. But without minions? Oh hell yes max block, and less Vit. Otherwise, you're going to die often.

Note: all of the above can be ignored if you just use a high level Dim Vision. :wink3:

Cheers, :sunny:

That'S helpful, thanks.
I do have minions -- that die quickly to bosses, however, so maybe a bit of block will help. Hm. I dont know, 150 Dex you say? Grr. All I have is "rhyme" so far, that is 60% block. Maybe with luck I can find Homunculus.

Strength: 84

Enough for trangs armor which shouldn't be too hard to trade in bnet.

As for Dexerity, personaly I like to go for max block. With Homunculus(72% block), you need 222 dex at lvl 99 for max block. But like MalVeauX said, with merc, summons, bone armor and dim vision, max block isn't really needed(I just like to play it safe).

I put point in STR only for requirement
I put point in DEX only for 75% blocking
I put anything else in VIT for keep my new born necro survive
I put 0 point in ENERGY because everybody told me to love the blue pot
