Dex / Max block...help please!!!

Ok. I started pure so please don't make fun:

Equipment:

Occy
Goldwrap
2 crappy rare rings (mf'ing andy like CRAZY for soj still no luck)
Tal's Armor
Rare mf (18%) boots
Sigon's Shield
+1 Set Helm (forgot name)

Skills:

25 orb
13 cold mastery
25 meteor
25 fire ball
currently maxing fire mastery

my question is:
i get hit a lot in hell and am dying a lot.
Some people are telling me to invest in dexterity to increase my chance to block %. Is this advisable? If so, how much dext should I get? Thanks in advance.

What level, base stats, resists do you have?

If you are going for block I suggest either Whitsans Guard or Visceratuant (upgraded), sorcs block slow without FBR IMO.

I need to find one of those shields you guys are talking about heh. I have about 10 res per on hell. 75 energy, 220 vitality, base dex (25) and 85 str (enuf for tal's armor).
I have saved up 45 stat points because I was unsure as to whether to put them into vit or dex.

Those 45 points and the others you will get further on will only let your nearly reach max-block with Whistan's Guard. All the other shields require alot more dex!

What you need to do is up your resists and keep going along the Vitality line. Those points will be far better serve you there than going max-block and in effect not having 75% chance to block, but less, which is simply not worth the investment.

You also need to analyse when it is you're hit, is it when just teleporting aimlessly - searching for Durance 3, Throneroom or whatever? If is you might want to just be a little more careful when 'porting, like getting more FCR, FHR and a FBR shield (but ignore dex, not enough for it to truely matter) - I'd use Whitstans or Visceratuant still. Maybe if you can find some nice +str items you could aim for a "Spirit" Monarch?

Yeah, Spirit Monarch would be what I'd do.

For ref:

Spirit:
4 Socket Swords/Shields
Tal + Thul + Ort + Amn
............
+2 To All Skills
+25-35% Faster Cast Rate (varies)
+55% Faster Hit Recovery
Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage (Weapons)
Adds 3-14 Cold Damage (Weapons)
+75 Poison Damage Over 5 Seconds (Weapons)
7% Life Stolen Per Hit (Weapons)
+250 Defense vs. Missile
+22 to Vitality
+89-112 to Mana (varies)
Lightning Resist +35 (Shields)
Cold Resist +35 (Shields)
Poison Resist +35 (Shields)
Attacker Takes Damage of 14 (Shields)
+3-8 Magic Absorb (varies)

To get enough strength for a Monarch, here's what I'd do:
Part 1: Get a three socket helmet, fill the sockets with three perfect amethysts (+30 strenght).
Part 2: Socket your Tal's Armor with a perfect amethysts (+40 strength).
Part 3: Identify every ring you can find and try to get as much str as possible from them - but don't ignore resists totally!
Part 4: Place enough stat points in strength and wear Spirit.
PS: Remember that your helm is pretty much what allows it, so save up points just in case you find a Harlequin's Crest. ;)
