Detroit Lions vs. the BCS (college football in general)

For those who don't know: the Detroit Lions are a professional NFL team in the USA. They are 0-13 so far this season.

It's in the local media that even though they have not won a game in the professional league, they could still beat any of the college teams who are playing bowl games.

What do you think? Can a winless pro team beat the best of the college teams?

Easily. Not even close.

Well, this depends. I would seriously believe the following teams could give Detroit a run for their money. I'm listing them as how I'd think they'd have the best chance

1. Florida Gators (WITH Percy Harvin)
2. USC Trojans (9 projected first DAY draft choices on DEFENSE alone... that's basically an NFL defense)
3. Alabama Crimson Tide (Julio Jones could do heartly in the NFL RIGHT NOW, which is scary, but the real tale is in Alabama's linemen on both sides)
4. Oklahoma Sooners (Bradford really is that good)
5. Texas/Texas Tech (different reasons, but they both could do it, though Tech would need some serious early scoring, and a constant triple team on Calvin Johnson)

Though realistically, the Trojans or Gators could do it, that team really is that bad

And Yaboosh, I'm diggin the Jags avatar. It's my favorite team as well (Mo Drew and Marcedes Lewis, baby!)

How can it be a pro team in the first place if it never winns in the pros?

Heck I could so the same alone on the field.

It's not that they never win. They were 7-9 last year. And 9-7 in 2000. But yes, recent years have not been kind to Lions fans.

If the game were to take place, while the college team would have something to prove, the Lions would have everything to lose. They would play their best all season to avoid losing to a non-pro team, just like i think they will do at green bay to avoid a winless season.

Plus, college kids are tiny, they normally have to bulk up sometimes to take the pounding in the NFL.

Which rules will we be using? That'll make a bit of a difference, too.

In what way? The biggest rule difference I suppose would be the one foot rule for college, but do you think that acts as a skill equalizer, or would the pro WRs be able to take equal advantage of it?

I have to stand up for my Lions and say.. they would walk all over ANY college team out there.

@ Yaboosh: Have you ever seen a rookie catch a ball, fall down, and spike it in excitement before being touched by the defense, actually causing a fumble? I have, and it isn't pretty. Being downed by contact is a huge transition.

There's also overtime rules, different fumble rules, 2-minute warning, ect.

I think the weight disparity would be the most significant factor by half-time.
