Death's Fathom? (and other Cold Sorc Q's!)

I've wanted this item for a WHILE.....I mean...would you say its the godliest orb for a cold sorceress, or maybe HOTO or something? I can assume finding Death's Fathom perfect, or anything close is hard....and I haven't even seen one non-ladder.

For PvP...would you think Orb or Blizzard would be better? I've always loved orb, but i'm just not sure if it could shell out enough damage.

The main point:

Where would be the best place to search for Death's Fathom? I assume if I want to find near perfect, i'll have to get some MF gear, suck it up, and find myself one. Which place would be the best to MF for that?

Also, would it be possible that I could make a good part-time MFer out of this godly PvP cold sorc? I assume only vs'ing bosses will make it alright to be a single elemental sorceress, and I was thinking maybe I could start my godly cold sorc and have her serve as an MFer to gain her own items?

and of course...Blizz or Orb? I've always kindof liked Orb....and maybe a little blizz..but can you even make a godly dueler out of orb..or should i just stick to/practice blizzard?

Why would Blizzard Entertainment make a game where Blizzard isn't the best attack?

For PvP, Blizzard owns. Frozen Orb has more range, but can be easily absorbed. You'll be needing Dual Ravens and a Thul'd Blackoak to cancel maybe 20% of a okay/decent Blizzard. However, with Orb you'll require less synergies and therefore you can invest in Fireball or Energy Shield which could deal with those who stack resists against you (Fireball) and help your defense dramatically (Energy Shield).

But for PvM, Frozen Orb for the win. Blizzard can kill Mephisto and Andariel in one hit though, but for seriously MF'ers, I'd recommend going to the Pits where there are many different immunes so something like the Fireball/Orb variant would do better.

The godliest Cold Sorceress weapon is indeed the Death's Fathom, however my 35/5 Fathom is sitting in my stash doing nothing while my Wizardspike is doing all the dueling. If you cannot afford a good Fathom, HotO or Spike would be the weapon for you. Don't bother with The Occulus.

i traded for a 32/4 fathom (on non ladder btw, took a toll on my wallet so to say) a few months ago, and it owns, added like 3k-4k to my blizzard. The only thing i'd complain about is it having a little more FCR%, but if you can reach the last breakpoint its godly. As to where to find it, (on ladder only ofcourse), id try mephisto, he always seems to drop me the good stuff :drool:

Right now im using my pvp blizz sorc for mf'ing too, the only problem i see is that if you want to get that high mf percent, it will be a pain switching off your mf charms to your cold skill charms all the time. I have about 3/4 of my inventory full of 7%'s and its a pain, but using her to mf is fine.

also the pits, eldritch, and sometimes pindle are cold immune, so i really wouldnt bother trying to mf them. Andy, meph, and the council members near meph (ive gotten some nice stuff from them) is what i usually do. Pindle when hes not cold immune aswell.

Orb vs. Blizzard
i've been contemplating this myself. Although blizzard can get huge damage, i cant stand it in pvp. It seems (for me atleast) impossible to duel others that can tele, because say you cast a blizzard on someone, they can tele out of it because blizz takes a split second or so to hit (or atleast it SEEMS this way to me). I am starting to build an orb sorc because just about all the orb sorcs that ive dueled owned me. I'm not saying you shouldnt make a blizz sorc... just i prefer orb.

pryz...meph can't drop death fanthom 1st of all.
btw blizzard is a pretty good pvp char for many reasons.
1. it has high damage.
2. its almost unresistable.
3. it gives a high damage ice blast which is really deadly.

High damaging skill + mastery that gives - resistances = ownage.
Iceblast can be deadly, but its not easy to use in pvp.

Most Ice Blasts' can kill a good player with 75 resists easily in one hit, so it's a very good alternative to Blizzard if you are doing 1 vs. 1 duels. Otherwise, Ice Blast is an excellent way of overwhelming good Wind Druids since it has a faster casting rate then Blizzard so it makes for an easier attack against their Cyclone Armor.
