Dear President Obama

Re: Dear President Obama

Come now, Jmerv. I think the mods in the past few months have done a pretty good job of making their personal opinions just that - personal. I don't anyone is playing the "phear the mod powers" game.

And I don't really think any Hitler comparisons are warranted. I think it's more that Obama is like a fortune or horoscope. Everyone is seeing the good that they want to see, regardless of whether it's the truth.

I think that Obama will turn out much like Bush. Much as Bush expanded executive power to address national security and safety, Obama will expand executive power to address the economy. They are both idealogues that carry a "if you're not with me, you're against me" philosophy. And much as liberals rallied against Bush for taking this approach, conservatives will rally against Obama for the exact same thing. The only difference is that Obama is giving his handouts to American voters. Only time will tell as to whether the American public buys into Obama's methods, or whether they will be as upset as they were with Bush's.

"phear my Mod powerz!!"
Oh please. You can slap around the mods we have today all you want in a debate and they still won't bring out the mod hat.

Don't you remember how the old school mods where? They never posted socially at all and just came in to tell people to **** off and then the rules where to not look them into the eyes and never address them personally or you would have yourself a warning right there.

The problem we have today is that mods are so social that people have trouble accepting when the mod hat is on (i.e Toader)

You forget that I'm not a frequent visitor now.
And I don't really think any Hitler comparisons are warranted. I think it's more that Obama is like a fortune or horoscope. Everyone is seeing the good that they want to see, regardless of whether it's the truth.
Again, I'm not playing at Godwin-isms; I'm pointing at just how dangerous the Dear Leader syndrome has been and will be again.

I hope that O will indeed be similar to Bush, seeing as I've always been quite clear-minded about the failings of the last 8 years. I expect it's too much to hope for, though, because it would require a change to solid conservative principles for the man who was the most committed leftist in the Senate. At best, and as I said in my 'letter', I hope that O is just another venal Chicago politician.
And much as liberals rallied against Bush for taking this approach, conservatives will rally against Obama for the exact same thing. Well, that goes back to the Dear Leader routine. See, there was a tactic used by Castro early after seizing power - they would enter the schools and tell the kids to ask God for candy. Then they would tell the kids to ask Castro for candy, and the kids would be given candy.

I have the unfortunate suspicion that our politicians venal nature is indeed a reflection upon that of our populace. Many people will indeed vote for the Democrat candidate based on a handout rather than any legitimacy or moral stance; "it's the economy, stupid" was not a mistake. After all, Obama's background is ACORN, and the bribery associated with inner city and illegal alien voters is pretty well understood.

It seems... contradictory to be attacking one side for giving 'handouts' when you've been notably uncritical of the other side who ran up a gigantic deficit while cutting taxes.

How is it contradictory? The former is in regards to the recipient and the latter is in regards to the spender.

Handouts and tax cuts are two entirely different things.

As you doubtless know, I'm all for ramming these facts down their collective throats with a dirty plumber's helper. They're the ones who helped people believe that <your> solution is a viable one. A curse is upon their heads; hey, maybe the party can collapse and the neocons can finally get the knife in the guts that they so richly deserve.
Handouts and tax cuts are two entirely different things.
Do tell? I'm reminded of a line from Eddie Murphy's sensational "P.J.'s", "my welfare check what I earned!"

- cue CCR.

I believe people are so angry about all the bad things the republicans did that anyone could have run against them and won. Johnny could have won the presidency if his slogan was "I am not republican."

I truely believe the bulk of Obama's 'charisma' is the fact that he is simply not republican. If Hillary won, then the world would be raving about Hillary's charisma, and if Johnny won, the world would be going on about Johnny's presence, charisma, etc.

Hope and change? Those would have come with anyone from the democrat side.

Obama is fairly young too. I think that is more of an accomplishment than him being non-caucasian or w/e. Maybe people are tired of old farts getting into the whithouse and playing war games because they're too decript to bang the ladies anymore and they need to compensate and demonstrate power somehow, or w/e. Many old people just don't care about things anymore, so I think Obama's youth will be a huge advantage.

Re: Dear President Obama

One reason Obama lost was that all liberals voted for the same guy, but the conservative vote was split. Personally I did not vote for McCain (especially after he jumped all over the bail-out. I was hoping Bush's flirting with socialism was a fluke, but sadly this is apparently the direction the Republican party leaders are trying to go, despite their base.)

Doubtless most people here don't listen to conservative radio, but there was a "Get drunk and vote for McCain" campaign to try to convince people that they might not be able to stomach McCain, but he was still better than Obama. I don't like either gentleman, so I went 3rd party. My hope was enough conservatives would be willing to "throw away their vote" for future gain, but apparently we're very short sighted as a nation.

(Want another example of how short sighted we are? "No point drilling for oil because it'd take at least 10 years before we start producing" is the excuse we heard this year - and also more than a decade ago. That's right, we COULD have been producing oil this year if we weren't so g-d short sighted.)

Quite so. Sadly, most were stupid enough to be voting based on the Iraq "war" and not on the issues the GOP really screwed the pooch in regard to. AKA "neocon".
I truely believe the bulk of Obama's 'charisma' is the fact that he is simply not republican.
I can't agree. While O's "charisma" is a media construct, and they would have made him a Ford-esque bumbler had he been conservative, he <is> a reader of Tele-Prompt-ers par excellence. I mean, consider for a moment how many books were published regarding Shrubbo's mangling of the language. This, of course, is predicated on the reasoning that the President is not much more than a mouthpiece when it comes to leading the nation. And that reasoning is not entirely facetious; I believe that Shrubbo would never have had the pitiful popularity he achieved if he had only adopted the "fireside chat". The man <is> charismatic and noble of spirit, he just sucks butt trying to be a communicator.
Many old people just don't care about things anymore, so I think Obama's youth will be a huge advantage.
Wrong here. While Obama can & is cast as "hip", "kool", "with it", etc. that is only because he's a rockstar. Once he's alienated enough press, he'll be "aloof", "feckless", and "inexperienced". Expect to see plenty of this if he contests impeachment witch-hunting or a far-left agenda coming from Congress.
Obama has way more charisma than Hillary. It's part of the reason she lost.
Undeniably. But being an actual foreign agent as opposed to simply being a Progressive with foreign sympathies plays a not-insignificant role. The Lioness of Tuzla* overplayed her hand, which was not a strong one to start. O played his with amazing acumen - and the fact that he was playing against Johnny RINO didn't hurt him a bit.

EDIT - * Big Brother alert - the clip Hitchens refers to has been removed from YouTub!

EDIT 2 - ninja!
I don't like either gentleman, so I went 3rd party.

Re: Dear President Obama

Obama also had his face speaking for him in the election. White people are force fed the idea that race does not matter and have been working really hard on judging someone based on their character rather than skin colour. The black community on the other hand could officially support Obama purely because he was black. Oprah, Jesse Jackson and so on and black people would and did vote for him, a lot of the time for that very reason.

It's all good to me though. I wanted him to win. If anything just go make the next 4 years interesting. The last thing needed was another old white guy in power. It's like when they pick a new pope you know? No one expects anything new and no one is ever surprised.

A reacharound?
Now that was uncalled for {despite any number of "fapping" references I've made regarding BLCD liberals}! Just because we're fantasizing about <not> turning America into a fascist state in the next 4 years hardly means we're ******s or queer.

EDIT - odd that the verb 'fap' isn't filtered but the verb of the wankiers is?

EDIT 2 - besides, we mental masturbators have nothing on Barney.

Dear President Obama,

Make them bring back the A-Team and MacGyver, those shows were brilliant.

Why question the use of the word "historic"? All presidencies are historic.
If you mean recorded in the history books in a big long list then maybe.

Please don't escalate the war in Afganistan as you promised you would. We don't want any more dead swedish soldiers in your war.
Nobody made you come to the party.

Meanwhile how can the republicans call themselves the "Grand old party" with a straight face when it's the newer of the two parties?
Refers to the age of its voters.

Obama has way more charisma than Hillary. It's part of the reason she lost.
Meh, by a pretty narrow margin.

Black men got the vote 50 years before women in America. That might also be a hint.

Althought it might make certain major and large independent oil companies more wealthy, it wouldn't make any significant difference in our imports.

How long do you think it takes to produce the oil and gas Tanook?

What do you plan to do ... produce the wells WFO and watch them quickly cone water and be ruined?

A fool and his ideas are never parted.

But then again, what would I know about such matters?

Thanks for the earlier commie pinko shot Jman. No thread is complete without your blathering foolishness.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go find some natural gas to bolster our profits as well as help little toadies like you to stay warm.

Have a nice day,

Must be a lot of incomplete threads, then, since Donny and you are the ones dousing threads with your spooge - and you certainly seem to provide sufficient foolishness when I'm not around. But then, since your immediate belief is that we ought to have Stalinesque show trials for the Bush administration is the height of rationality for you & the establishment, I'm sure there's plenty more spooge a'coming.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go find some natural gas to bolster our profits as well as help little toadies like you to stay warm.
And proceed to boast more about how rich you are, no doubt. By the by, I don't use gas... wood fireplaces are great.

Incidentally, since President tire-gauge has already started re-writing his promises about offshore drilling, I doubt you'll need to worry about where us peons will be acquiring our fuel from.
