Dear President Obama

Re: Dear President Obama

I say it not because I think he feels indebted to anyone, but because I think there are a lot of people out there that think otherwise.

Obama's biggest challenge with the public will come when he makes a decision that he feels is right, but goes against what the public wanted. Will the public stick with him? Or will they be upset that Obama didn't follow their bidding?
I'm a bit under the impression that Obama is the type of person who wants to please everybody. As that's obviously impossible, in particular in a position of power, he will have to decide for something at some point and thus make a couple of enemies. So if he has a choice, he should decide for what he believes himself as being right, not what gives him or his supporters the most advantages (a lot of people don't distinguish between the two). However, politics is a matter of making foul compromises half of the time, so he might not have a choice all the time.

Dear Mr. President,

Would you be able to spend your term appologizing to Iraq, injecting money into their ecconomy and maybe even rising the statues of Sadam which should not really have been pulled down in the first place? The Eastern world will continue to hate America until America has the guts to fess up.

Ironic remark, considering that holding them without trials is what got everyone so pissed in the first place.
I was kind of wondering... seeing how Ill & company frothed with hatred for over 8 years about Bush "trampling the Constitution", is anyone else struck by the nonchalance with which the Obama administration will now ride roughshod over the principles of capitalism and free enterprise?

But don't listen to me, I'm guessing that I'm just one of Driveby's "right-wing retards" for mocking the 'enlightened being'. :coffee:

I wouldn't say struck as much as disgusted.

Yessire, tell you what folks ... Let's just take Moosh out behind the woodshed, tie him up, throw him on an inclined board, cram a sopping wet towel over his face and make him breathe-in water. After he inhales and coughs out a couple of quarts, he will, no doubt, be ready to sign a confession that he is a murdering cannibalistic pedophile.

We will then use that confession to convict his ***.

Have a nice day,

Llad

That would be quite a towel.

My remark was meant to caution against lauding Obama's policies because they are Obama's policies. Holding people without a trial while the government figures everything out is not laudable unless its followed promptly by actual, fair trials. Celebrate then. Meanwhile, you still got a bunch prisoners who are being held without trial. Suspending trials is superficial politics, meant to accomplish exactly the effect it had on llad without actually taking any substantive action.

Exactly.

Llad will learn more about the guy he voted for in the future months I'm sure. It's to early to see past THE LIGHT right now.

Interesting how two people who want the same outcome to the situation can argue with each other so much.

I think Johnny believes all the conservatives are a single person.

It's probably the 5th time that song has been linked, but at least one of those was me.

Maybe a couple of them just appear like all being the same.

That video is just an expression of helplessness. It makes the victory even sweeter for the democrats.

Given your own nationality, I would have thought that you'd have been more aware of the ramifications of what we're seeing with the current administration.

Far be it from me to invoke Godwin though. :whistling:

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Jmervyn. Could something bad have possibly arisen in Germany, when people blindly followed an extremely charismatic leader?

I can assure you that I'm able to see through what's behind charismatic people. Perhaps you should care a bit more about the impressions made by your postings. I still ask myself what's the point of replying like that, it looks as if you are invoking Godwn's law in spite of what you wrote below. Say it or don't say it, but please don't sneak around that issue like that.

That goes to you as well.

Far be it from me to invoke Godwin though. :whistling:
Good to see you being reluctant with that, just as I am with respect to your postings :p

We can still settle the issue in a peaceful manner. Jmervyn, I regard your smiley as a sign of not being serious, but if you throw me into the same boat as certain other people in a certain manner, I will take offense. I try to be a regular member here, but I cannot turn off the green shine of my account name here, so please don't make it harder for me than it already is.

To quote "The Germans" from Fawlty Towers: Don't mention the war.

Thanks for your understanding.

Every country has its shady parts in history. To point the ones of others out because you were called a sore loser only proves the point.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Jmervyn. Could something bad have possibly arisen in Germany, when people blindly followed an extremely charismatic leader?
I would like to see the day when people are following completely uninspiring leaders.

@Implied comparisons between Obama and Hitler: That's absurd, borderline offensive, and ignores a vast number of inconvenient data. Your logic appears to run as follows:

1) Obama is a charismatic leader.
2) Hitler was charismatic leader.
3) Therefore, Obama resembles Hitler in other significant ways.

By the same logic...

1) Bush Jr. spent lots of money on his country's military and invaded other countries on questionable grounds.
2) Hitler spent lots of money on his country's military and invaded other countries on questionable grounds.
3) Therefore, Bush Jr. resembles Hitler in other significant ways.

1) Hitler was a vegetarian.
2) Many other people are also vegetarians.
3) Therefore, all vegetarians resemble Hitler in other significant ways.

The fact that your point was first made by Vdzele should be a clue that it lacks a certain... grounding in reality.

Mark Morford is a giant bigot. So bad that I've even written to the Chronicle asking if they endorse his bigotry. Morford preaches love and tolerance and then does nothing but hate on those he doesn't like, which is usually Christians and Republicans. He's a sorry excuse for a columnist and a sorry excuse for a human being.

I assume you're addressing me?

krischan was right about my lack of seriousness, though obviously I hit a nerve hard enough to get the "phear my Mod powerz!!" response. The point is, Germans are supposed to know oh-so-well about being "misled". And as for being a sore loser, I didn't support McCain; I figure (and pray) that we might take a dose of punishment now with a second Carter term and be saved from a greater conflagration later. But that hardly means I'm going to unquestioningly swallow this ongoing Kumbaya routine. Weren't we just being told (loudly, incessantly, and often violently) for the past 8 years how patriotic dissent is? But now I'm committing thoughtcrime!

My point wasn't about Hitler in any legitimate fashion whatsoever (interesting how often the comparison was made using Bush though innit?); it's about the fact that half of the American people seem to be stumbling over themselves in a quest to bob O's knob without knowing anything about him. The contrast with the treatment Bush (and other Republicans) are historically given is nothing short of astounding, unless you're one of the blithering idiots who assume that if you're not a Liberal Progressive, then you're mentally deficient.

If one actually examines what Progressives believed, well, it doesn't help one sleep well at night to realize they're now in charge... unless, of course, you're one of them (hence the song clip). The Beck clip, of course, references Stalinism; it doesn't even address WW2 but rather Cold War propaganda.

@AJ - I bet he's even sorrier now that his fawning over Dear Leader has become so famous.
