Dear diii.net, please don't use popup ads, if you need our help, ask.

This is a little thread dedicated to brainstorming ways to give diii.net a little more cash flow. I'm sure other people have noticed the ad page that comes up before you can enter this site. That's not okay by me, it's completely unwelcoming and if diii.net is seeking more users, this is a counterintuitive method of expansion. I think diii.net could use a hand with cash, and if so, maybe we can brainstorm a way to help them so they don't have to resort to such an unattractive way to support itself.

Any comments? Ideas? I look forward to a future without an attack of the ad agencies, and layouts that flood the screens with haunting .gif images.

If places are willing to pay the site to advertise, why should you car all you have to do is the skip button is not hard and does not change what the site does.

Because some ads, unbeknownst to the site hosting the ads, have malicious content and run ads that could contain malware. I know this because my browser keeps telling me that I shouldn't go to this site because of malware from the ad servers.

I believe that's a move by IncGamers, their parent site, because StarcraftWire has the same thing.

You can donate here and also become a Site Pal with some added features for yourself:

I have to agree. Even though I use a pop-up blocker, just now when I tried to enter it, this website managed to freeze my computer up for over a minute while attempting to load a video-popup.

My browser also tells me I shouldn't enter diii.net because it contains suspected malware.

But I like to live in the fast lane and enter anyway :smug:

Edit: This just happens sometimes, must be one of the ads.

Am I the only person who's never encountered anything anyone's mentioned, other than sponsor links in between posts which just appears as a thin spacer with a link for me?

I'm not a fan of popups, but I don't mind the inter-site "continue/skip to site" ads. It's just another click.

Ads in general are not a problem. But some of the ads that have recently started appearing on this site are; especially those from v8dc.com.

Probably why my post in this thread was deleted...

I particularly dislike this bit: "You agree to not interfere with the display of these adverts through banner blocking software or browser features."

No. I do not agree. Sue me, ban me, whatever. In fact such a statement is a violation of my rights in my country and, I'm sure in the country of origin of the website. After all, Germany and Portugal share similar laws concerning consumer and civil rights.

I will keep doing here what I always did in the web. It's my right to do so. I cannot be forced to swallow any kind of advertisement. That rule can't be any more fascist.

Well then krugar, get the fudge out if you are so vindictive. diii.net supplies us with a nice, smart diablo 2 hub. So what if we have to see some ads?

Eh? I'm not against ads in Diii.net!
Or anywhere else for that matter.

I know he's banned but I'll just remind all of you of this:

This is a privately-ran website. This is not a public site, a government site, et cetera. Your rights are not yours to choose; everything you say is at the discretion of administration or moderation. This is the law of the internet yet some people don't seem to realize that every time you click "I Agree" you give up what you think are your rights. This does not apply to other people's property, in this case, dii.net's parent company.

Never flagrantly admit that you block ads on a free site which you use frequently when they have rules against it. That's just ignorant, and many feel it is just plain wrong.

Interesting how quickly that ban happened - especially to somebody who seems like adds a lot to the forums and seems like a nice guy.

I'm not against ads but that one rule seems unnecessary - is it even enforceable? lol. In addition I also get malware warnings periodically which makes me wonder how safe the ads are. I don't know if anybody has a problem with ads but I am sure everybody will have a problem with ads that are malicious.

I'm afraid it is very necessary to pay the bills.

Good to hear it's not enforceable.

Re: Dear diii.net, please don't use popup ads, if you need our help, ask.

How could you possibly be so hostile against such a dedicated, high-quality and free website?

dii.net and diablowiki was/is like the equivalent to Jarulf's guide for D1. There is no better resource. For all you know they pay out of pocket for this. You obviously enjoy it.

I've been reading this website since 1999, when Gaile was here, before Rush was. It's consistent. I use opera and I could grab and adblocker if I wanted, but I most certainly wouldn't deny them some meager graphics from loading if it helped them out.

    I don't want to sound like a brown-nose, but c'mon now.
