Dealing with FE bosses? And how exactly do they work?

Hi,

How do paladins deal with FE bosses and how exactly do they work? I know that they are bugged, but I don't know much about it or how dangerous they are as a paladin.

My brother just lost a lvl 52 paladin with ~800 life and ~50+ resists in A3 NM to a FE Thresher. No other FE boss had done any damage to him and he was just mowing through everything, then he got amplify damage curse, boss died, and so was he.

Just looking for clarification on how exactly FE works and how to deal with it as a paladin and how to avoid dying to it in HC?

Thanks for the help

I'm pretty sure Fire Enchants can corpse explode when they die doing tonnes of damage someone correct me if I'm wrong though

Yeah, FE is fire enchanted. How do you handle them as a paladin? Other characters can kill them ranged, or with massive health(barb/druid) wheras a melee paladin is hand to hand but doesn't have the huge health to handle the explosion. Do you just back away from them before they die in Nightmare and Hell, or how do you handle it so you don't die?

Does stacking fire resist protect you, or what exactly is the bug with the fire enchanted bosses also?

Thanks

alot of time i find it very hard not to die from a fire enchanted on nm no matter what char being used, a barb or a pally, especially Calenzo the first boss spawn of baal. I've heard of this bug before and that it leads to a instant death anyone else? maybe someone should test this out.

There was a thread by Tai a while ago, discussing possible additions to the FAQ sticky at the top. He and Master Zap did some math on NM FE/LE monsters and Hell FE Monsters. Here is a link.

Hope this helps a little.

#EDIT: Made a couple of tables to illustrate:
Code:
Monster life | CE fire damage | 50% fres | 75% fres | 90% fres |
-------------|-----------------|---------------|---------------|-------------|
       1,000 | 300 - 500 | 150 - 250 | 75 - 125 | 30 - 50 |
       5,000 | 1,500 - 2,500 | 750 - 1,500 | 375 - 750 | 150 - 250 |
      10,000 | 3,000 - 5,000 | 1,500 - 2,500 | 750 - 1,250 | 300 - 500 |
      20,000 | 6,000 - 10,000 | 3,000 - 5,000 | 1,500 - 2,500 | 600 - 1,000 |
      30,000 | 9,000 - 15,000 | 4,500 - 7,500 | 2,250 - 3,750 | 900 - 1,500 |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monster life | CE phys damage | 10% DR | 25% DR | 50% DR |
-------------|-----------------|----------------|----------------|---------------|
       1,000 | 300 - 500 | 270 - 450 | 225 - 375 | 150 - 250 |
       5,000 | 1,500 - 2,500 | 1,350 - 2,250 | 1,125 - 1,875 | 750 - 1,500 |
      10,000 | 3,000 - 5,000 | 2,700 - 4,500 | 2,250 - 3,750 | 1,500 - 2,500 |
      20,000 | 6,000 - 10,000 | 5,400 - 9,000 | 4,500 - 7,500 | 3,000 - 5,000 |
      30,000 | 9,000 - 15,000 | 8,100 - 13,500 | 6,750 - 11,250 | 4,500 - 7,500 |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thus if you run into a FE monster with 5,000 life and you have 75% fres and 25% DR you will take 375-750 fire damage and 1,125-1,875 physical damage. I have used the necro corpse explosion range of 60-100% of corpse life, though Arreat Summit states the FE-explosion to cause 75-100% damage (4 yard range). I'm not sure which is the right one (but I trust Master Zap over Arreat Summit).

NOTE: The life of monsters will scale with more people in the game.
