Deadly strike

Can anyone give me the formula for deadly strike w/ critical hit... are they weighted equally, or does deadly strike get counted differently?

The damage does not stack together, and critical strike is calculated first. If critical strike doesn't roll then you get a roll for deadly strike.

The chance of either critical strike OR deadly strike occurring is (I think):

(1 - (1-CS%/100)*(1-DS%/100))*100

So say you have 20% CS and 30% DS this becomes:

(1 - (1-0.2)*(1-0.3))*100 = (1- 0.8*0.7)*100 = 44%

Because CS is rolled before DS if you have a half decent amount of CS there is not much gain from adding in DS and so DS should not be weighed very highly in gear choices if your CS is high. Wherever possible you should increase your CS rather than DS.

For example - say you have 60% CS, your average damage is increased by a factor of 1.6.

Now - say you make a gear choice that has 30% DS you will have a:

(1 - (1-0.6)*(1-0.3))*100 = 72% chance of double damage.

So your damage output goes from being increased by a factor of 1.6 to being increased by a factor of 1.72, so the 30% DS will only increase your damage output by 7.5%.

In this case adding 30% DS has the same effect as adding only 12% CS.

Re: Deadly strike

The order of CS and DS is completely irrelevant.

1 - A*B = 1 - B*A

Whether you increase DS or CS is not important, although it is not very productive to focus heavily on both.

Oops. Good point.

I suppose I should amend what I said - when possible you should go with as much of one as possible. If you have more CS and you have the option of adding X%CS or X%DS then the X%CS will benefit you more.

Yeah. Let's say you have 80% ds and 0% cs. Getting 50% cs would have the same effect as increasing your ds from 80% to 90%

Re: Deadly strike

everything there is to know about critical strike vs deadly strike (and probably correct-accurate too):

deadly strike has some unique abilities (doubles FINAL SUM of physical+magical+elemental damage) that for unique or specific builds can really be DEADLY.

grim reaper (unique pole arm) gives 100% deadly strike!!! now u just need to have a character that does high final sum of physical (this probably won't be high since grim reaper weapon has low base damage) + magical + elem damage

paladin's holy shock-holy fire-holy freeze, amazon's cold and fire skills that give high +elemental damage, etc?

Sorcerers enchant in combination with a merc. And if you plan on going that way, you could use Headstriker - sword - or wws - bow - just a good. the advantage is that these do some damage. As they are exceptional.

Anyway, last time I check, it didn't work that way. Anyone can confirm?
