Certainly the analogy makes sense. But I don't see what the super big deal is...

Also I found it amusing how the actual results on the plot were almost invisible (though they are mentioned in-text too).

    Clever little idea.

Learning about dark matter and energy is a pretty high priority in physics right now.

Hits? Since when have we been able to detect dark matter? Isn't that the point?

Oh wait, just read the URL. LOL.

So... we still can't detect dark matter, nice.

It's not a made-up story, the site often discusses examples of bad astronomy, but it also covers astronomy news. My understanding is that by knowing that the dark amount of matter we collide with must oscillate as we move through space, this team has been able to identify a correspondingly oscillating pattern of something striking the Earth. All sorts of stuff is being bombarded at the Earth all the time, the trouble in finding dark matter is sorting out all the stuff you aren't interested in looking at. It may or may not be dark matter, but whatever it is, it follows the same pattern we would expect from dark matter.

From dark matter, or anything else in fact.

The article linked at the bottom to a page that's somewhat more sceptical to the whole thing, I advise reading it.

    Re: Dark Matter

A good thought that this subject is above me... because as I read the article, the following came to my mind:

John leaves point A traveling at 45 miles per hour. Sally leaves Point B traveling at 52 miles per hour. Both are heading in opposite directions. If both travel at the same rate of speed, then turn around and change direction and speed, at what point will I flipping be able to follow the logical course of this damn story problem?

    I hate tests
