Okay, I officially do not know how to use ATMA.

I decided to change some character names as I was unhappy with them.

It so happened that one of the names matched another character file (yeah, I shoulda seen it coming)...so I changed my Druids name to my Skellymancers name...and oh oh, I can no longer open my Skallymancer (and there goes some choice items - all replaceable excep the Arm of King Leoric.

Question:

How do I load up a backup of the character, and where do I find it?

In your save .dir it will have charactername_1/2/3/4/5.org, just rename number 1 .d2s (thats the most recent, IIRC) and it should be fine.
If it doesn't work I'll send ya an Arm of King Leoric

find the file called "name_1.org" in your character save folder and change it to "name_1.d2s"

Your backups should be in the D2 save folder as a 'character name'.org file. Try changing the names back. It worked for me. I have had problems when changing names also. Usually it will not let me play the character until I change back. You should keep seperate backup folder for .d2 files for your characters. I keep mine in My Documents folder and am glad I did.
