Damage stacking questions

I'm sure these are some newb questions, this is my first time playing DII, I'm not new to RPGs, just this one though, and I'm trying to figure out the game mechanics still. I'm still one Act I, just finished quest III. I had a previous character and made it just a little further. I'm a Paladin lvl 11, with only one skill point used assigned to Might.

My question. I currently have a scepter as my primary weapon, it adds 1-7 fire damage per hit. I also have a charm that adds 1-6 lightning damage per hit. Does the 2 damages stack on one another, giving me total boost of 2-13 damage or are you only able to add one to each hit. Also how many elemental damages can be stacked at once. I have a charm that adds 1-2 cold damage, (useless really) so if I was carrying this charm would it be counted as well?

And if none of that works, would the charm that deals lightning damage be able to add it's damage to a weapon that deal lighting damage with each hit?

Last one, any suggestions what to do with my extra skill points?

Re: Damage stacking questions

elemental damage from equipment (weapons, armors, charms, socketed jewels) simply add to your attack. The effect can already be seen in character screen in damage box.
Say you have weapon which deals 10-15 damage, this get augmented by your STR and bonus from skills (Might aura for example), which gives total 100% ED boost. On top of it, you have "adds 15-20 fire damage" on your weapon, "adds 1-7 lightning damage" on 1 charm and "adds 1-5 fire damage" on another charm. You will do 20-30 physical damage, 16-25 fire damage and 1-7 lightning damage with each successful hit. Now monsters have different resistances for each element (and physical resistance too), so final damage will be modified according to those resists.

Save your skillpoints for later use, you will get better skills later. You can only use one aura at one time and Might isn't a particularly good one, Fanaticism gives better benefits for a melee paladin.
Read some character guides stickied in Single Player Forum or Paladin forums, it will answer a lot of question about what combination of skills to use and what every skill does. After that you can decide which way to choose for your paladin.

Re: Damage stacking questions

Cold damage in any amount is actually a good thing - this is a cut& paste directly off the Wiki:

At least one type of cold damage is essential for most combat characters, simply for the slowing effect being chilled has on monsters. Multiple sources of cold damage (charms, weapons, equipment, skills, etc) stack up the chill time, so several of these can be quite useful

And if you're a sorc wearing any sort of fire damage, your fire mastery will also boost up the fire damage ;)

The same goes with lightning mastery.
