D3 PTR. Buried in the patch notes. No more salvaging vendor blues and yellows.

That figures. I was actually having fun with doing that to attempt to craft item slot upgrades.

I copied over my chars to PTR and my 20 million gold went with it. Since the PTR became available to everyone, I have re rolled one each of the characters. I have only gotten to level 18-22 with all the new characters. I usually do one area per character then switch to another character and do that area again. That way if anything drops the levels are usually close enough to make sharing items possible between my characters.

I noticed right away that not enough blues and yellows dropped to craft very often. I had the gold, but not the materials. So I started buying every yellow and blues (usually rings, or belts) as needed. This was done just so I could attempt to craft upgrades. For some reason I like the graphics and sound effects of the process and it is fun to 'roll my own' so to speak.

It still took anywhere from 1 to 20 crafting attempts to get an item upgrade per slot. NERFED.

No more salvaging vendor blues and yellows for materials. Gee thanks Blizz. I have let them know how I feel on the D3 PTR forum.

But I am curious, am I the only one that did this or cares that vendor blues and yellows will never become mats after we spend our hard earned gold on them?

Frankly, you probably are. I don't know anyone who buys those anymore; if you had 20 million gold on D3V, and you used the AH, you could buy gear for 5-8 million that would be better than any vendor gear except RoS lvl 61+ vendor gear. I myself have never had more than 30 million gold ever, and the only time that PTR vendor items have been upgrades/sidegrades was on new, untwinked characters. It kind of sucks that you can't salvage them, but at the same time, it is laughably easy to buy a ton of essences and tears on D3V's AH and import over to PTR. I bought about 500 of each (I now have about 1000 of each) and it cost me less than 1 million together. I understand if you don't like twinking, but even so, it's not really that bad to just buy up a bunch of crafting mats. Besides, come RoS, none of these mats will be used anyways. Lvl 61+ crafted gear uses different mats anyways, so this is mostly a moot point.

In my opinion, it is a larger problem that vendor whites are no longer salvageable, as white drops are very rare on PTR. That said, I've heard that you can get lots of whites from rolling new characters and farming them, so fair's fair.

Several people in the beta were doing this because whites are so difficult to come by. A blue indicated this would be stopped with the next (last) patch.
