D3 clone, that's fast.

http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/torchlight-debuts/

Runic Games, comprised of the team who were making Mythos at Flagship Studios, including ex-Blizzard North founders and Diablo creators Max and Erich Schaefer, has sent out a press release and the first two screenshots of their new, Diablo-inspired, Mythos-like RPG. It’s called Torchlight. One screenshot can be seen below; click it to see it full size. Here’s the second one. The art style is interesting; it’s very colorful and lively, and is definitely anime-inspired. I’d go so far as to say that the characters, especially the monsters, are almost super deformed.

You can read more about the game on the two Runic Games fansites, each of which received one of the two screenshots: Runic Games Fansite and Runic Games Insider.
Take a look at the screenshot below.
Doesn't the interface(even the position of it), background and colors looks a tad too familiar :scratchchin:

If you are referring to diablo III. I don't think so. DIII looks much better.

Perhaps wow?

Duh obviously, if you read the quote, model-wise looks kinda like WoW... but the interface, background colors, the candles, books... tristram cathedral?

I'm going to hold my judgement on this game until it actually comes out and gets reviewed. HOWEVER...when are these guys to going to stop leeching off the Diablo name? I realize they were the original creators and worked for Blizzard (every single press release by them has to point this out), but we want Diablo games not Diablo game knockoffs, and Blizzard is the only company that can provide us with the real deal.

Remember when they tried to make it sound like Hellgate: London was basically Diablo 3? They even had most of the gaming community convinced of this with their viral marketing campaign. Boy, they must be feeling really stupid now that that game failed, their company went under, and the real Diablo 3 is coming out.

Except for the interface, that screenshot looks a lot like Mythos. It's just cleaner.

I guess if you had to you could say the interface is similar to D3 but it's about as similar as just about every other interface.

Quite frankly, I think Diablo is the only thing the Diablo people can do. Or maybe it's just ARPGs. Either way, the scorpion will always sting the fox and the oaks will always oppress the maples. It's in their nature.

No.

I was going to say the same thing. It looks very similar to Mythos back when I played it. Ignoring the characters and monsters, it does look abit like D3, though slightly more cartoony. In other words, if you were to get rid of the monsters & characters, would you confuse it for D3 Cathedral?

I agree this has very little to do with Diablo 3. More a Mythos remake. Mythos itself was influenced by Diablo (as is natural it would have been). So this sort-of remake can give the wrong impression.

In fact this game competes directly with some other company; Hanbitsoft, who has the rights to Mythos and has been developing it. The South Korean company might just has been blown away.

Looks more like Mythos to me. They started this right when Flagship collapsed, the people from Mythos (a separate team from HG:L team btw) started up Runic. Personally, I miss playing Mythos a lot, so I'm glad they are still working on something.

Granted, Mythos was a bit more polished than this by the time we saw it, but still. Also zombies throwing up one people was in Mythos long before we ever saw Diablo III :)

You do realize that this game is made by the original creators of Diablo?

Yeah I guess we all realize that.

Tho it could be time to test some new blood and ideas to the arpg formula, I hope this game brings more improvements and innovations to the genre that is quite stale but could be open to new design ideas. I just hope its not a potionfest ARPG, its a bad mechanic that plagued Hellgate and Mythos.

Potions in Hellgate were actually pretty tame. They only prolonged your life if you were a tank and didn't help much against burst damage if you weren't. And their regeneration duration and reuse cooldown had a noticeable gap. I don't know how long the cooldown was for sure but "eternity" always comes to mind when I try to remember. Mythos... I dunno. I had a hard time telling if I was doing anything in combat in that game.
