D2 player. Tons of questions about what has changed.

Dear All,

I just got D3. I have lotsof experience with D1, D2 so I know the basics of the genre and justneed to know stuff works in D3.

First of all I need toclarify that I will play D3 as a single player game, meaning noteaming and no AH. Gameplay strategy and skill combinations I willtry to find out myself and if everything fails only then I will lookfor advise. But there is a lot of other stuff I need to know and using google or browsing topic after topic takes too much time.

  1. If I do not use AH, is it worth it to pile up gold? If yes – how much? Is there a point where gold is (almost) useless in single player?
  2. Where I can find a guide about how and what is useful to craft?
  3. How do I set MP 1,2, 3 and so on?
  4. Besides Mempo and Manticore, what are the other useful unique items?
  5. Since stash is rather small how do you manage to keep what you need? There is only one stash, one account and no mules. What is worth keeping in the stash?
  6. How do you make a “machine†or something like that? Where do you find keys?
  7. So far I am lvl 20 and still have not found a single gem. Bad luck or what? Is it realistic to cube up gems to highest level in single player or if not how high I can expect to cube the gems?
  8. If damage on weapon is very important, does that mean I should run a wizard with an axe if the axe has highest damage of all my weapons?
  9. In D2 casters and mellee chars generally used different gear. Now I can't seem to see a difference between a wizard weapon and barbarian weapon. Is this how it works now?
  10. How to use rares which are of no use – sell them for gold or use them to get crafting material?
  11. Are there any areas which are generally good for farming? Are bosses worth running?
  12. Are there any breakpoints to be careful about or just more is better?
  13. How one can craft Hellfire rings?
  14. How many stats an item can have and what to look for. I mean obviously I need intelligence for the wizard and dexterity for the demon hunter. But if an item can have, say, 6 stats, what to look for? Is there a difference between the stats that can be on say boots and rings? Or every item can have dex, vit, magic find, life leech and so on?
  15. How do you level up paragon levels? You first become level 60 and then you simply gain paragon levels or there are other requirements?
  16. What is nephalem valor?

Yeah, I know these are alot of questions. And I can easily ask another 100. If anyone iswilling to help, I will deeply appreciate it.

Check posts on this site since the game was released. Plenty of info, plus changes since ROS is coming. Cheers!

1. Discussed at length no this site, including in a podcast or two. AH is closing in March, so you'll have limited time using it.
2. Search.
3. Search.
4. Too broad. Search.
5. You can buy up to three full stash tabs in the game. You have 10 character slots, so you can mule a little. What is worth keeping? Too broad.
6. Search.
7. Gems will drop as the game progresses. There is no Cube. You can upgrade gems later.
8. Weapons are "stat sticks", so yes.
9. See 8.
10. Depends on what you need at the time.
11. Search. Discussed at length.
12. Not sure what you mean here, but probably the latter.
13. Search.
14. Too broad. Play and find out.
15. Play and find out :)
16. Play and find out :)

1. Yes. Gold will always have value, even in RoS.
2. Craft anything that requires demonic essences & hellfire rings. Nothing else is worth crafting IMO.
3. Game options. First you have to enable it, then you can set it at game creation in the same place you change start quest.
4. Inna's temperance, vile ward lacuni prowlers & witching hour are highly desirable for many classes.
5. Keep gems, crafting mats, tomes of secrets, and a couple weapons with lowered level req for alt leveling.
6. Keywardens. Fields of Misery A1, Dahlgur oasis A2, Stonefort A3. Recipe for machine drops off another keywarden in silver spire 1 in A4. 10% drop rate per monster power.
7. Gems don't drop until later. Don't worry about it you'll find plenty at end game.
8. Yes.
9. Usually. Sometimes you want arcane power on crit on your weapon, but otherwise no difference.
10. Sell for gold always. Auction prices for iridescent tears are very low.
11. When you get to max level the popular leveling route now is act 1 on the highest MP you can handle. Get 5 NV stacks from festering woods / crypts -> fields of misery -> Halls of Agony 2.
12. The only breakpoint I have ever encountered in D3 is wizard & attack speed for Critical Mass. I wouldn't worry too much about it, because Critical Mass is going away in the expansion.
13. 3 keys = 1 machine. 3 machines = 3 ubers fights = 1 ubers "run". Each ubers fight drops 1 organ. 3 organs = 1 ring. Drop rates for keys and organs are 10% per MP.
14. Items can have 6 affixes. On jewelry and gloves you want "trifecta". Attack speed, crit chance, crit damage. You also want primary stat on everything. On helm and bracer you want crit chance. Use other slots for all resist, +armor, +vit and +primary stat. You absolutely want sockets in chest, legs, helm and weapon. Nothing else really needs a socket. Life steal on weapon is highly desirable. Oh also you want 12% movespeed on boots and 12% on something else. Inna's temperance and lacuni bracers are common options.
15. Yup, you got it. Hit 60, then start paragon leveling.
16. It's a stackable buff. Lasts 30 minutes, grants 15% mf/gf/exp. Stacks to 5. Granted from killing an elite pack at max level. You always want to start your games by farming 5 of these, no matter what you want to do in that game.
