Re: Crusader Class

Feels too close to the Paladin, and I honestly never thought of the crusaders as particularly honorable (but that's a conversation for another forum :D)

However, the need for a sword and shield based class is important to me. I'm just hoping for something that is a sword and board plus magic hybrid that is different from the holy warrior archetype.

I like it. Its hard for me to think up different classes without drawing a huge similarity to Existing D2 classes, as this one does to the paladin. However, if a fantasy game doesn't include a "Holy Warrior" or "Honorable Adventurer" and/or feature "Holy" magic, then something is missing.

Maybe its my years of D&D, but a Fantasy game without "religion" (in the loosest sense) just doesn't make sense.

Point of clarification: I don't want religion for religion's sake. I am an athiest, so its not like thats my reasoning. But, religion is/was always a HUGE part of medieval history, and D2 is based off of a realistic, medieval world, so to skip over the "Holy warrior" archetype seems to be a mistake.

Edit: That and Paladin still remains one of my favorite D&D Characters! Haha.

i played the palidin was my favorite role. Please don't make some class like bard/cleric,stuff like that's not my cup of tea. They need to make another melee class that's more noble, holy, honorable, midevieval is related to Diablo, the midevieval world in a since, and i want another melee class besides the barbarian. I'd like also another class that's not named with some word nobody knows "cough" "mesmer" or destroys other class because of being more confusing to play "cough" "mesmer" another thing is playing guild wars i noticed things like titles, don't die once till your lvl 20 ,making a player delete a character and spend alot of time getting to lion's arch just to be killed and recreate and try it another time. Games are supposed to be fun, not work

Re: Crusader Class

i would love to see somthing like a deathknight. Like if the pally from D2 had been corrupted by evil and gets to kill Tyrael at the end of the game. Omg ive just written the warcraft 3 story line without even realizing it :p

The Paladin was probably the only REAL party member in d2.The one in d3 will probably be good against the undead and have some nice enchantments(auras) to assist him/her and other party members.

i like the idea of a crusader class, not even crusader but a saint class
he could use holy fire and and smite people and have God bless his amour (reducing damage taken) Also, he could have an angel come fight with him for certain amount of time

Why would Blizz put the Paladin into D3 exactly as he is in D2? Methinks they really don't want auras, either. The whole 'good against undead' thing was nothing special, either. Very few people want an exact replica of a D2 paladin.

Oh, kinda like the Paladin? I don't mean to be rude, but let's get our creative juices flowing, for Pete's sake!

If there must be a holy class, maybe he should be implemented as the archer. That would at least be a tad different while holding onto the whole idea and archetype. We don't need a valiant comic book sword and shield smiter type. But maybe we do need a valiant bow and arrow smiter type. Please, something other than cutey pie, plate wearing, 'I have a cross on my shield', paladin. Then again, maybe I'm grumpy!

Perhaps the Holy Archer, our little Acolyte with a bow, could rain sacred steel down upon the enemies of Sanctuary by firing a bolt of lightning into the sky from his bow causing it to rain arrows! I dunno, sure that's pretty ridiculous, but so long as it isn't the knight of Zakarum part II.

Hah, nice, I'd have to agree with you there. But in all honesty I think I enjoy the idea of a cleaner warrior class, I would personally like to see a lancer put into this one, maybe with possesion by beast spirits and stuff, like a druidic lancer, that would be my personall hope.

There should be some kind of a medium size characters that could either use a sword/shield, bow, throwing knives, javelin/spear. IMO, with a good ratio of strenght & dexterity, you could end up with some sweet Archers as Doctor Salvador mentionned or Crusader/Templar/ Seraphim/Knight with the same base kind of character.

Re: Crusader Class

yup, the crusader is the paladin -_- and honourable doesn't mean holy ...

I Totally agree with the holy archer type since both are needed in a medieval game.
However the fifth would have to be a fighter type (this is a hack'n'slash game after all) so the lancer idea fits pretty well since their wasn"t any good one in DII. Even though it would need some kind of quirk too make him original and cool.

Re: Crusader Class

If it has to be "holly" class, why not some kind of monk (holly with grater good) ? Making a melee fighter class with sounds to similar to D2 for me. For sword and lance class I would like to see something like demonolog or deamon hunter. Specialized with sword etc. and some kind magic (entchant or something alike). But thast only my opinion.

Re: Crusader Class

Well, considering that we probably won't see anything different then cookie cutter builds, I'd say a Crusader is just another term for a Holy Warrior/Paladin/Knight...granted one can argue differences...but I'm sure it will be something old and something new at the same time. I'm sure the same thing will apply to whatever archer type build there will be.

Let's face it...this game is going to be great no matter what.
