Cross Marketing Madness - Star Wars Transformers Okay, so we all know how huge Star Wars is and was. And we all remember how huge Transformers were back in the day and can reasonably expect them to become after the release of the movie. But is this blasphemy worth it? The original Star Wars toys and the original Transformers toys were all made from high quality materials that could take a beating and last for years. The new generation of both are made from cheap crap that falls apart. Is it any wonder sales for these toys have dropped, and were never as big sellers as expected? Given the opportunity I would go out right now and buy the Jetfire I had as a kid because it was made from metal and good quality plastic, the same toy now is junk. I havn't bought a single Star Wars prequel toy for this very reason. And for collectors it must be even more of a joke with the reasoning seeming to be "In 1977 Star Wars toys became instant collectors items, so we'll make millions of them out of cheap plastic this time around!" Does Hasbro seriously think that an unholy union of these two franchises will increase sales?
