Cow Level, quick question

Finally, it is IMPORTANT to know that you can only open the Portal to the Secret Cow Level ONCE per Difficulty level. If anyone in your party kills the Cow King, you will not be able to open another portal. You will, however, be able to enter a Portal opened by someone else in a Multiplayer game if they open it for you.

From there. That quote was a bit ambiguous to me; can someone clarify? I can only open the portal once per difficulty, according to that quote, but then it goes on to say: "If anyone in your party kills the Cow King, you will not be able to open another portal."

So... I can open more than one portal in Normal difficulty?

I'm so confused, can someone clarify for me?

You can open one portal per game

Leave the king alive and you can always make a new one after you S+E and create a new game

A new game? As in, another character?

as in save & exit.

same character will work, just don't kill the cow king (obviously you need to get a 2nd Wirt's leg to open a 2nd portal too).
