    Corrupted save

My PC just hard crashed while i was playing lod with my single player lvl 71 zealot, and after i rebooted i went to start a new game and after the difficulty selection screen i got a black screen saying "can´t load save : general bad file".
I tried to open the file on atma and it said the file was shorter than expected (3020 and expected 3028), is there any way to repair this or am i screwed?

    Thank goodness for ATMA!

Just look in the diabloII save directory for your char. Look for the ones with the .org extension. (you may have to turn on extensions for xp) Rename the char with the original name of the char and a .d2s extension, and you should be golden.

For instance if I want to recover my char bob.

I look in the diablo save directory for bob.d2s

I rename the bob.d2s to bad_bob.d2s. (probably better to delete once you get a working char...but save for now)

I look in the diablo save directory for bob_1.org

    I rename bob_1.org to bob.d2s

Then see if this char loads. If not try bob_2.org and keep going until you get a working char.

If ALL else fails, you could post in the ATMA thread and plead for doc to help you.

    Hope this helps.

that normal. it will happen from time to time. i usually backup my chars in another folder in another partition ( ) after every playing session. if the game doesn't crash off course. then you need to do what chase_encode suggested.
