Confused About New Precision Stat

    Confused About New Precision Stat

    With respect to the announcement of the new stat changes to Attack, Precision, Vitality, Defense, and Willpower.

    I'm clear on what each stat does, except Precision. Does it increase the chance to critical hit, or does it increase the damage or effect of a critical hit?

    If its the former, wouldn't that lead to a cap stat at 100% chance to crit? And if its the latter, which I suspect makes more sense, would it be % or addition/multiplication based or vary by attack?

    The former. Precision increases crit chance, so there's no real reason to increase the effect of crits as well since you're already dealing more damage through crits as it is.

    There will naturally be a cap on crit chance, but that doesn't mean it'll be easy (or even possible) to hit.

    An impossible to reach cap is still a cap. It still leads to a cookie cutter "get x% chance to crit, then stop" mentality. Making the stat change pointless because it'll be just like D2.

    Nah. For one, the change introduces the question - do you want consistency of stacking attack attribute, do you want reap the full benefits of secondary crit effects by stacking precision, or do you want enough crit to whatever point you feel comfortable and effectively hybridize your point distribution?

    There will be cookie cutters, yes, but it won't be just like D2.

    Cookie cutters in games are inevitable and important..

    The balance of a good game consists of not having TOO much diversity and not having too little.. Both are bad and detrimental for a game's lifespan

    Since we can't allocate our own stats... our + attribute must come from items..
    This will lead into having to make a choice on whether or not you go full crit, balanced crit or no crit..

    Thats just 3 builds right there for each char involving only 2 attribute types.. no special items or skills..

    I understand what you guys are saying. I like the change Blizzard is doing, but something still feels off in my gut with this.

    As always, there's a million ways to balance things to prevent problems such as "caps". (It's ALL about balance, foks!!) For example, you're chance to crit could depend on the monster's level which means that it'll constantly drop as you progress thru the game if you don't keep adding points.

    Nice try, but the so called dumbing down is occurring on the basic interface level that allows players to fully access and intuitively understand the basic functions of the game.

    Just look at skills and skill runes. They are making it easy to enter and understand by staggering the rate at which you acquire skill slots, but once you are high level, you are on your own with all dem choices.
