CoH > Enigma? Some questions.

I was curious, which is a better armor to use for a Hammerdin? I read most people reffering to the Enigma as the best armor around, but I was just curious what makes it so superior to CoH? (not that im completely disagreeing, I'm just not sure one way or the other)

Also, does the increased damage on CoH (+100% to Undead; +200% to Demons) stack with BH damage?

Enigma is popular for a lot of reasons...

First off is the potentially higher defense than CoH... but thats not a huge deal, as it's usually put in armor like breast plates. This is done so the hammerdin can pour points into vitality rather than into strength to wear gear, since enigma gives a HUGE strength bonus.

Secondly, and the most popular aspect, would be the +1 to teleport... this makes the hammerdin ... "godly".

Another aspect is the MF it provides... hammerdin is a popular MF character, and the enigma gives him even more MF on his armor... on top of tons of defense, strength, and more.

Some other things it provides that CoH doesn't is increased max life by 5%... this is a pretty fun feature. Along with life after each kill, which is like a little leech on your hammers, and plenty of faster r/w.

The only thing that CoH would provide to the hammerdin that enigma doesn't provide is the incredible resistances. However, without using CoH, I found it easy to get max resistances in hell through HotO/Wizzy, HoZ (PDia/Um), maras, and charms.

And no, I don't believe the damage stacks on BH from the CoH... CoH is a great piece of armor... but enigma is simply superior unless you're doing a hybrid or are in dire need of resistances, and don't care about teleport...

Uhgii hit it pretty well... lemme see if i can add.

Basically: enigma > COH any time UNLESS you are in a serious jam of resist.

Enigma alows you to have a MUCH lower base strength, gives good mf, +5% life, 2 skills, potentially higher defense, etc. Some builds are just meant to have resist problems... the hammerdin is not. Enigma is better there.

Uhgii nailed it. There's not much reason for a Hammerdin to use CoH rather than Enigma. Having had Enigma for a while on my old ladder Hammerdin, I can tell you that it was great. I'd definitely recommend Enigma over CoH for a Hammerdin.

Uhgii is pretty much dead on. I don't teleport much, but the other mods are still godly. Mine is on a Dusk Shroud for the reasons mentioned. I wasn't thinking about Enigma when I built this character so I have way more than I need in strength with all the bonuses I am getting from other items.

In a broader context, Enigma gives everyone's favourite character the possibility to teleport. Pally's are the easiest characters to gain max resists so CoH is not the ideal armour for the hammerdin.

It seems to be better used for melee characters.

The only builds that have a legitamite use for CoH rather than nigma are sorcs that need the resists, and melee characters that don't have the mana to teleport. CoH is a great armor, but it really just doesn't compare to enigma.
