    CNN breaking news...

One can only hope it's that dirtbag Osama, heck, I'd settle for his number one. Those two have been playing duck and cover long enough, time to get caught.

So let's start a pool. IF a high value target is caught, who's your money on?

    My money's on Durf.

Failing that, his #1, Anahahka bin found out.

    and failing that, Osama's #1.

Dead or alive, works for me.

Preferrably dead, in a horrible, unspeakable fashion.

ObL, and his cronies, I am referring to here.

    Heh

Actually, and personally, I would prefer to see them captured alive. Nothin like a nice US public trial and then many hundreds of consecutive live sentences if they are found guilty.

IMO, being killed in action would be the easy way out for them, and difficult for us to prove that we have them.

It seems the goal of his capture is vengeance at best. The loan wolf nature of contemporary terrorism makes it difficult-to-impossible to "beat" terrorism without addressing the reasons they exist in the first place. Killing one of their most well known "leaders" would only lead to them becoming martyrs in the eyes of the followers of the terrorist ideology and those on the border.

Focusing on those committing the acts as opposed to why they are committing these acts seems to be avoiding a viable way of solving this problem. However, this could be seen as giving into the terrorists, so, if that happens, kill a few, and then go back to actually solving the problem.

Hmmm, my cheek tastes funny after that last part, but whatever.

But that's too hard. It's much easier to shoot a few people and say that everybody is safe now...except for the citizens of the middle east...but we've been ignoring them for years...why stop now?

Some reports say it's not Osama, but his No. 2 man.

i agree with you but i also think that terrorists should be punished to the fullest extent possible. it is probable that their fellows may see as martyrs but i am of the opinion that we need to stamp out terrorists like we would cockroaches. i think it needs to be shown that such terrorisic methods to bring about change does not prosper. imho, punishing terrorists and understanding and solving the reasons for terrorism should be done hand-in-hand. sort of like... treating the symptoms while studying and curing the cause.

I'd actually hope it is Number 2, because that would be more valuable in terms of stopping terrorist attacks. bin Laden is more of a figurehead than an actual planner.

BIg picture is that taking out the number two guy would be more effective than nailing UBL. Everybody knows #2 is the real evil SOB!

More seriously, taking out the second in command does a lot. He's the guy that's been the one to actually handle most of the operations. Killing him would also leave a power vaccuum. UBL would have to deal with that instead of finding new ways to kill innocents.

I'm sure the Democrats are not happy about this though. Taking out UBL now would take away their fear of capturing/killing UBL closer to the election date. Killing #2 means essentially nothing in political terms.

This makes sense to me. I think the "War on Drugs" in the US functions similarly, until we understand WHY everyone uses drugs so much, current policy will never solve the problem.
