Clay or Iron Golem?

So I just started a necromancer for the first time on HC. I wanted to be a summoner, seems easiest to live, but I was wondering whether to max clay golem/mastery or iron golem/mastery. I read in the summoner guide to go the iron route but I've also heard that Clay golem has insane life. Suggestions? Thanks :thumbsup:

Hmm..I'd DEFINETELY max every one then you could choose which you like better you know what i mean? I think you'll put THAT to good use.

I would go with Clay Golem. The slow is very helpful, and you can cast them whenever you wish.

Maybe you were reading an older Guide?

Nowdays instead of maxing Golem + Golem mastery, we like to max Skeleton Mastery + Raise Skeleton.

The guides you need are the ones by Gvandale, or NightFish.

There's another one floating around, by KBob I think, for the commandomancer, but if you are new to the necromancer it has absolutely no relevance to you whatsoever. Likewise the Poison/summons guides tend to assume that you are richer than midas.

If your been out of the game for while the old MAX GM and a golum (fire, iron etc) is pretty much out of the door for most builds, paritcularly for the summoner as the Clay is all you need. All golums dun do enough damage no more so their sole purpose (imo) is not to do damage but as a meat shield and hold/slow things up. That combo Decrep + clay will help for boss killing.

1 in GM and Clay is more than enough as his life scales up with difficulty and you will no doubt have +skill items to beef him up even more. Anymore imo is a waste as Clay probably one of the best 1 pointers in the necro summon tree. If your starting out afresh again i would recommend reading NF's guide for more info for the summoner.

Hehe I know you max skeleton and mastery silly but you can also max atleast 2 other things and I just asked because I thought I would need another meat shield. I read another guide and I think I've decided on maxing bone spear and bone wall as another attack.

Seems like an amazing idea, why didn't i think of that. I dunno if I'll put it to as much good use as you would though :lol:

If you have to ask "Clay or Iron" then you should probably stick with clay.

If you are looking for a challenge once you master the summoner build, then try Iron.

Some other options:
You can also try a Venom dagger and max Poison Dagger. With Marrowalks, you can add additional safety for your nec and pump up Bonewall with the additional skills.
If you max Clay you can consider going with a Slowamancer approach.
