Classic WW Lancer :D

Ok...I played quite a bit of D2C before i moved to xpac in 09..now..I all of a sudden, have the urge to go back to my roots, and make a WW Lancer, lol. I just have a few questions: First..Does IAS still not affect WW in classic? Second, ornate armors and still the heaviest armor in classic, so i should aim for 170 str? (no charms :( ) Third, what is the best spear type weapon that i could use, also, its str/dex req's....Thank you

I don't have the game installed, but I can remember a few things.

1) Yes, WW is still IAS-free. Go with your Battle Hammer, Martel, Naga, Polearm, or Lance.
2) Ornate is the heaviest armor, but I'm not a fan of getting high defense armors like that. In BvB its basically worthless, as Angelics negates the small amount of defense you'll get. But in PvM, if you want it, go ahead. Your barbarian will not suffer that much from a loss of life.
3) Lance, requirements are 110/** I believe. Once again, this is from memory, don't quote me.

I got to thinking about it..and I remember Hawkmail being GODLY, because of the 'cannot be frozen' and faster r/w, so i think i'll opt for that, or some decent def/resist ancient armor in PvM, but definitly the hawkmail in PvP..depending on opponent. I got him started, lvl 13, haha..this should be interesting...I'll post here with some results if i can get him gear'd up over the next week or two..cya

remember that lances only have 25 dur so they go red fast. you need a lot more AR in 1.10 then you do in 1.09 even on high lev chars. going with items that have open wounds, crushing blow will also help your barb a ton in D2C.

Holy crap dude.. I was just thinking about making one, but doing it in expansion.. honor lance, just to screw around on. But classic would be fun. All the 'elite' bvb barbs I dueled used twitch/unique spiked shield.. dont remember the name. Rare battle hammer, etc. Oooh... I'm so going to make one! :) Maybe not in expansion.. hell, I dunno. =P

Use Hawkmail only against cold sorceress. It has CBF and FRW, but is a medium type armor. Blinkbats will suffice for everything else.

Also, cold sorceress or FoHer can be reduced a lot with this set-up:
Iratha's Amulet
Iratha's Crown
Iratha's Gloves
Iratha's Belt
3-Saphire/Topaz Shield
Duskdeep
Hawkmail/Sparkling Mail/Resist Armor
Cold/Lightning Magic Rings
30 FRW Boots preferably with resists.

Man..thanks for all the help..but on suggesting items...one must remember this is my only classic char, so he's limited on item selection, but i'll figure something out. Haven't had much time for him just yet..school is killin me..but he's lvl 13 i think. and, i THANK Blizzard for the bigger stashes in d2x..the small stash is a sad, sad, thing to deal with :(

i never really minded the small stash tbh because you don't have charms/jewels/whatever other crap to worry about.

One thing. Full Irathas and good Natural Resists are very important and are pretty much requirements. Without it, Sorcs are going to walk all over you, and being a Speeder, that won't give you a good name. I never know how many to put into speed. Hawkmail shouldn't be used unless you are desperate for CR and Max CR. Blinkbats is a very viable option, as 10% FWR and 40% FHR are just sexy. Go basically all vit and rest reqs. Your aim should be 4k around level 85. Also, for boots, get good 30% FRW with life and some Dex. And finnaly, with Full Irathas and Natural Resists, you should have 85% all resists.

Considering its basically max Battle Orders, Spear Mastery, Whirlwind, you have room to put a bunch in Increased Speed. I like getting at least 9 or 10, but really, you could go with maxing it and be fine. Natural Resists has diminishing returns and I'd stop at 3, while Shout is just useless.

I say Shout is useless because a melee character can easily hit a "high" defense character. I made a Defiant in ladder 1, and he sported around 10k defense and max block. I still got owned by WW barbarians, with walk on and shift+smiting. Have 1 point, and after everything, add to it for duration for BO.

3 points Natural Resists? That's IT?! I would say add ten to that, 13 and you should be good. Resists and speed are the basis of a good speeder. Just remember, with Irathas 85% resists are pretty much necessary.

-I'd say go Mace (BHammer or Martel) or Lancer (Lance lol)-- the only problem with the martel is the sick str req.

Yea, i had planned on somehow working him thru hell, then scavenging hell cow runs for a regular lance, then imbue it and pray to god for a good one, haha. Yea..once i get him up and runnin, i'll be nabbin some iratha set, and all the other essentials. Providing i can GET him running, lol. If anyone has any classic stuff, yell at me, heh...i could use it :p, thanks

To get 85 resists in hell with Iratha's, you need 135 resists. Under Conviction, you need 285. I guess you're right though, since Shout only needs 1 point, you can dump all the rest into IS and NR. I'd max IS though, since speed from skills is better than speed from items. Resists are the same all the way through.

Weapon: Rare Battle Hammer (Imbue at lvl 74), Bonesnap, 2X+2 War Cry Weapon
Armor = Blinkbat's Form, Hawkmail
Helm = Iratha's Coil, 3-Ruby Crown
Gloves = Iratha's Cuff
Belt = Iratha's Cord, Rare Belt with Life
Amulet = Iratha's Collar, Angelic Wings
Rings = 2XCoral Ring, 2XCobalt, 2X Angelic Raiment
Shield = 3-Topaz Kite Shield, 3-Saphire Kite Shield, 3-Diamond Kite Shield, Swordback Hold
Boots: Rares with 30 FRW, any other mods
Extras: Horadric Cube, Tome of Town Portal, Tome of Identify

1 Point Each: Bash, Leap, Stun, Leap Attack, Concentrate, Increased Stamina, Iron Skin, Howl, Shout, Battle Command
20 Points Each: Whirlwind, Hammer Mastery, Increased Speed, Battle Orders
Rest: Natural Resists

That'd probably be the perfect and cheapest set-up. Kite Shields are the best shields to put gems in because they are light weight, so you keep your speed up.

That sounds wonderful, but see...I had planned on a Lance barb, so battlehammers are no good for him. But i'm aiming for most of the other gear mentioned just now, thanks all!
(still havent lvld the bugger, lvl 13) <--- I'll get to it soon tho.
