Class idea: The Ancient

The Ancient

probably needs a new name as it was stated earlier how they don't want class names to be confusing as to what the character actually is, and many people probably immediately think of d2's barbarian ancients....i just thought it sounded cool, and I can't think of any cool sounding names for hunter, or native, or something along those lines.

The Ancient looks very similar to a native american warrior, which is the biggest influence of this class. They are a brownish skin tone with long black hair. They wear war paint on their faces to honor the spirits and to intimidate their enemies at the same time. They wear feathered headdresses (new helmet type armor class?) which are said to possess magical powers and also wear light armor as to remain quick and agile.

I'm not much of one to come up with a back story. Something about living off the land and being one with nature, the 'ancient' way...or something

They specialize in ranged combat and quick ambush style attacking. Through courage in battle they can earn the right to call upon the spirits they worship to aid them.
The Ancient would use a system similar to Barb's fury system rather than mana. Spirit orbs?

Main weapons: Hatchet / daggers/ throwing knives / bows
*ancients have the ability to dual wield any combination of hatchets and daggers for melee or dual wield throwing weapons.


Close combat

-Ambush—close distance on an enemy with a quick charge attack. Also useful for dashing away.

-leap attack—leap from a distance and/or over obstacles to strike an enemy or to escape after an attack

-dodge attack—passive skill that increases chance to completely dodge an attack

-critical strike—an attack for critical damage but leaves the ancient very vulnerable for a brief moment.

-hasty strikes—quick strikes in succession to multiple targets

-double strike—when dual wielding, swing each weapon once quickly


Ranged Combat
*skills work for bows or throwing weapons, so, you know, they actually get used.

-slow enemy—strike enemy in the legs to temporarily slow their movement speed

-hasty shots—quick shots/throws in succession

-dodge ranged attack—passive skill that increases chance to completely dodge a ranged attack

-pierce—arrow or thrown weapon penetrates enemy and strikes those behind first target.

-flaming shot—light arrows/throwing weapons on fire before using to add fire damage to attacks

-freezing shot—arrow/throwing weapon is aimed into the sky and carried high into the clouds by spirits and returns to the ground freezing any nearby enemies in their place


Spirit
*all these skills would have cool white and blue, glowy, spirity animations

-spirit of the horse—a stampede of horses clears a path by forcing enemies to the side while stunning them for a brief amount of time

-spirit of the bear—a stationary bear wards off lesser enemies

-spirit of the wolf—increases the characters attack speed temporarily

-spirit of the hawk—hawks distract attackers nearby the ancient

-spirit of the snake—adds poison damage to all attacks for a limited time

-spirit of the lion—adds knockback and extra damage to any attack temporarily

-spirit of the bat—kill an enemy targeted by this spirit and ancient will gain a % of health


I wanted to make a character to fulfill our archer/light striker while avoiding any pets. There's obviously room for improvement. So, any suggestions or good/bad comments? Give'r hell
