Clan Based Trading System

This idea retains the same concepts of the current system in place only expandedI am an advocate of self-found mode and im not trying to replace that. Im only trying to suggest ways to improve smaller community interaction- while bringing the concept of trading back to the game without ruining it.

How it works
  • Clan members (max 120) find an item that exists in game and have the option to list that item within a clan based window (they can click a button on the item to list it)
  • 2 hour threshold for items still exists before they are BOA'd
  • A limit for how many items a person can place will exist for that time period
  • Another Clan member will see the item listed, whisper, and make a trade
So what about multiple clans or joining other clans
  • Joining another clan will be restricted to a time period (right now you can only join one clan) - ie 2 hours
  • To prevent "clan jumping" there can be a set number of times you can join a clan per week. 3 times or so
  • Multiple clan creation will be restricted to a time period as well
So what about bots/black marketing
  • Since we are only expanding on the current system in place, black marketing techniques wont be as viable with the 2-hour threshold
  • There can also be an item display restriction for new people joining a clan to prevent black marketing possibilities even further (basically they wont see items when the first join)
  • Bots: bots make no difference regardless if you are in a clan or not they cant flood list (due to restriction)- same as how the trade system works now
How does this improve the trading system as is?
The best way i can explain this is to give situational examples:

  • Currently you are only allowed to trade with people you play with for up to 4 hours. The problem with this and smart loot is that it doesn't open up much trading options as most likely your game will be of different character classes (in this case assume that no one has another character). So with items that fall for only your class you are kind of pushed against the wall.
  • Now put into effect clan trading you now have introduced 2 hour windows for up to 120 players at one time. Of those 120 players lets say 20 are wizards and 10 are on at the same time you are. That means any item another wizard in your clan lists will be able to be traded within a 2 hour window. (no extreme item inflation)
what benefits does this give to people in your clan
  • Many! As one person pointed out the ability to purchase and trade items through a separate clan UI over a 2 hour period would make it more attractive for players to join one while being not such an overwhelmingly gamebreaking benefit as to penalize players who prefer to play entirely alone. (MisterWoodhouse)
  • It also allows more interaction with people in the game esp within each clan!
................................................................................................................................

I really like the idea of close nit communities that blizzard has created with Clans. So an idea popped in my head that maybe just maybe we could open up some kind of trading options with those people that currently exist within a Clan (max 120 people).

Im hoping people can provide some great feedback on the idea. Whether negative or positive. Thoughts?

I like the idea, and have thought of similar things myself, but I think it is too easily exploited. A two hour window on joining clans is probably not enough: I think that you should only be able to join one clan per day, to prevent exploit attempts. This is because while legendaries go BoA after two hours, you aren't guaranteed to see a legendary you want exactly after two hours. As long as you switch clans every two-and-a-bit hours, for example, you can basically trade for as many legendaries as you want just by clan-hopping, which defeats the whole point. I would suggest making it so that you can only join one clan per day. This is still potentially exploitable, but is much harder because you really only get one trade per day. This makes defeating the system much harder, which still giving people who really want to trade within their personal clan a benefit.

That said, while I like the idea, I'm also a little leery of making trading so much easier. Easy trading basically broke D3C, and while this is no AH, it's still a potential to get most of your items from other people, which devalues drops. As I said above, I like your idea, but I think that the devs should keep the system the way it is now for at least a few months. In the mean time, I'd suggest playing with your friends. I always found that D3 multiplayer was much more fun than D3 alone, and now you have added experience in addition to trading benefits. I can see the problems in the current system, but I think the devs should keep it for the moment at least. This is a new system designed to exist mostly without trading, and while that's bad for people who really like to trade, we had the 'free-trade' AH time before, so now a period without much trading seems fine. If it really is a problem, I'm sure enough people will complain to Blizzard that they will do something to make trading easier. So right now I'd rather see the situation remain the same, with possible changes coming in a few months.

Hey man really appreciate the response. I actually thought i had addressed the time frame restriction on reddit to being like 3 or so times a week for joining a clan but i guess i didnt. Anyways i updated the thread to include that thought.

Youve made some really really good points here i wanted to talk about. Main one being keeping the system how it is right now. I agree with you for the time being that we do need to hang on to the "self-found" mode as much as possible. Im all for it. I just think this idea is something kind of in the middle of "free trade" vs "none to minimal trading" that will bring the community closer together without ruining the game.

Its something that can def come down the road if carefully thought out by the devs, but i do believe it has aspects that will make the game much more enjoyable in the long run. When it comes to little things the accessibility really matters and makes the experience much more enjoyable.
