Changing name on single player?

is this possible and if so how can it be done please?

I suppose just about every character editor can change the name.

Just head into your Diablo II file and edit your character's d2s file (in the save folder) with the name you want. For example, if the file says "Bobunga.d2s" rename it to "Rob.d2s". You don't have to change any other associated file, but I would reccomend it to keep your map seed and other such things.

That won't change the name found in the .d2s file, which means it does nothing.

ATMA can rename characters just fine.

RTB, it changes how the name is displayed in the character selection screen and in-game, what else is there?

Another change since 1.09, since it wasn't possible back then.

I renamed a character using ATMA and it seemed to create a duped file. I now had the file with the original name and a file with the changed name. I then had to delete the original file to access the new file with the changed name. I don't trade items in single player but it seemed to me that I had inadvertently duped all the items in the file. Or maybe not. However, the name change worked fine.

That was done on purpose. If the renaming went wrong, you'd at least have a back-up left.
