Change of plans - installing Ubuntu tonight

Instead of reformatting and reinstalling Winblow and Ubuntu in Novermber, I get to do it tonight! Yeah! Gotta love massive Winblow failures.

Ubuntu is already downloaded. How long should I expect the installation of Ubuntu to take? I'll be partitioning the HD so as to load both OS.

doesn't take very long, I did it in about an hour to get the OS working, probably less

Don't make the mistake of running it from a CD on a substandard system, or you'll not be suitably impressed.

No time at all. Of course I did a full install and wiped every instance of Winblows off my laptop.

I did have problems with my wireless. Connecting with ethernet was fine tho.

If you have problems, post in the linux thread. I have been having sound issues.

If you were considering this, it was actually a very cute satire.

I'm not a Republican but I play one on the OTF.

Hey hey HEY NOW! Get your perv paws off of me! I'll only let the ladies feel me up. Oh all right, Durf too.:wink2:

Ubuntu is the easiest (from what I've heard) to use form of Linux. Plus it sound cool.

Nice avatar, Smeg: if it were possible for my opinion of you to sink any lower, assuredly it would.

The actual install will be quick, as people have said. Installing the stuff you need (apt-get is your friend) and getting video/audio/wireless/etc drivers in order can take hours, especially if you are new to linux.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

But it is worth it. I love Ubuntu.

Have you reformatted yet, Smeg?

WTF? I put this up right after hearing Richard Hammond got hurt. But by all means, go ahead and be a complete asshole.

Something else came up that was more important. I'll get to it sometime soon

I think Smeg never DL it. The install takes no time at all. If you connect with a cable to your internet..everything will be sweet. Wireless is a completely different issue no matter what others say.

I do have to say I did a full install with no partition. Who the hell wants winblows and all the issues?

I guess some things never change on the OTF...

I'm very proud of you, Zodi, for joining the defenestration movement. However, there's still a lot of games and proprietary stuff that some people might have the misfortune of using that require Windoze. For many older things you can get away with WINE, but for some stuff there's no way to easily escape from the trap.
