CD-ROM drive isn't working-Keep getting message saying insert CD when it's already in

Hi guys, I'm installing some old computer games on my labtop now that I'm back home for break, but I'm having a problem and I'm not sure if it's the game itself. The problem is with The Sims (yes laugh at me) and when I try to install the expansion pack, which takes an unusually long amount of time) I get through everything and when I try to actually start the game, it gives me a message saying to insert the cd when it's already there?

Is there some sort of problem with my cd-drive that can be fixed to resolve this problem?

Dude... the dang computer ITSELF is trying to warn you, not to install that crappy game. You just need to understand computer language to realize the problem, so let me translate the message you are receiving:

"Take that Sims CD out and break it, and put back in a real game. Or at least go masturbate or something."

Knarl-Thanks, that...didn't help at all and really seemed pointless

Minas-I'm running Vista and I've had no problems at all installing other games.

check if there are patches for vista on the games site
ea iirc

or try running your game in compatability mode
9x/xp depending on its age

Do you get this message right away or after a long pause? It could be Securom or something like that. Is this an original CD or a burn?

Try running as an admin, or give yourself super-user. I had to run as an admin to get D2 to work. >.>

Do you have two CD drives? If yes, try putting it in the other one. And clean the disk too.
