Caster armor?

Just looking in my book that come with the battle chest thing and it says I can make some caster gloves with magic chain gloves+tir rune+any amethyst+any jewel. Note that there is another recipe for a better version later on. I tried this in my cube and it wouldnt combine so I thought maybe something has changed since the book. I also couldnt find this recipe on this site.. I only found the one for the better version. If this still exists then info would be cool about what I'm not doing right.. Also.. does the magic gloves carry over any of the stats after the craft? I also noted that the recipe for the better version on this site mentioned a perfect amethyst but my book doesn't and thought maybe thats why it wouldn't combine.. not that I would consider dumping a perfect gem for the low version.. anyway.. if anyone knows whats wrong...

thats the recipe I mentioned for the better version.. so I take it that its the only version avail and that my book is out of date and thus wrong? Its not important tho really anyway but I could use the mana per kill and regen considering how easy the recipe is for the lower variation that must no longer exist if the book was ever right about it

I dont have much to trade atm for anything and I dont want any sort of hand outs.. this looked like a good alternative.. tho i dont have the runes for the version in the link

Caster armors are crap. Better make a Stealth runeword armor. You just need Tal, Eth and an nonmagical armor with two sockets.
