Cannot log onto Battlenet!

Hello,

I recently acquired a virus (my computer not myself) that messed up my internet connection, requiring me to set a new I.P. address. Everything is working again, however I can no longer log onto Battlenet. I checked the support section at Blizzard and it said to uninstall and reinstall Diablo II + Lord of Destruction, which I did. I also reset my router and set the "range" from 6112-6119 (If I recall correctly). Lamely, this did not work and I still cannot log onto Battlenet. I do not want my [email protected]#^%$!# character to expire as I had not logged on for around three weeks prior to the "event". Does anyone have any experience or advice as to how I should proceed?

Thanks in advance. . .

The error is:

"Cannot connect to Battle.net."

"If using a modem, you may need to connect to your internet service provider before connecting to Battle.net."

Did you hard reset the router?
Then, check if you forward the ports for the D2 game and see if anything weird happened to the setup like ( firewall, ip filter etc... )

"...everything is working again..." -> meaning all your IE, Firefox, instant messenger working fine?

Do you have any software firewall installed?.... check the setup if so ...

Are you on wireless LAN?

Hello,

Zigot, I did forward the appropriate ports (6112-6119). All other internet related functions, as well as other online games work fine, just Battlenet. There is no software firewall running just the hardware firewall from the router. The router is wireless (for wireless LAN's and WII functionality) but the internet comes in through a modem, then into the router, then into the computer.

The more I think about it I think the router is the problem, not the virus I acquired. I had not played DII for a week before installing the router got the virus around the same time that I installed the router, I therefore assumed that the virus was the culprit. Also, like I said EVERYTHING else still works. I am not at home right now but when I get back I am going to try simply physically bypassing the router. Hopefully this will work. I am not going to hold my breath 'though. . .

What sounds weird is all your other online games/appz work and not D2.

Well, try hard reset the router : put a pin into the hidden switch and keep for several seconds ( irrc ) that will erase all the settings, the admin password etc and reset the router.

A simple power unplug won't reset all the settings in there though.

** That's the first thing i do if that happen to me before i reinstall D2....

Hello,

I ended up just unplugging the router and was able to log on to Battlenet just fine. I will have to mess with the router settings (although I thoought that I already had quite thouroughly, to fix this problem) until I can keep the router on while playing on Battlenet.

Thanks anyways dudes!

arg same thing has happened to me minus the virus. I did some windows updates and updated some security programs and now no Bnet. I let it sit for a few days to build up my D2 craving thinking i could fix it whenever i wanted to. But now i want to play and cant fix it! CRUD! Internet and aim and the rest are working fine. I tried router resets and that didnt seem to work.

Hello,

All that I can suggest is from my own experience. . . physically bypass the router if possible.

Other options that I tried that did not work were:

Setting the DMZ on my router (not sure if the term is brand specific) to my I.P. address. Then enabling the feature and turning off all firewalls before attempting to connect to Battlenet

Setting my port forwarding range to 6112-6119.

Re-installing the entire $*?^@&+ game (which you stated you had tried).

Unpugging and "plugging back in" all computer components. To possibly reset either the Router or the Modem.

Running the repair option from the network properties menu: Right click "my network places", right click your local area connection, select repair.

As I said, the only thing that worked was physically bypassing my router.
