Cancelling Uber Meph's Conviction

I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this, any help is appreciated. :)

I plan to make a Conviction-based paladin to take on Uber Tristram. I know that if my Conviction aura is higher than Uber Mephisto's it will cancel his out. However, I plan to fight the Ubers with a friend equipped with a fanaticism aura. My question is-- will Meph's aura also be canceled for him, or will it affect him while not affecting me?

I'm pretty sure on this as well, but-- can the runeword Black be made in a scepter? They are Mace class weapons... but I have seen several hits saying that this is impossible, as they are in their own weapon group.

Thanks! :)

The conviction aura is only canceled out for you, you could the resist aura instead.

Black cannot be made in scepters. Blizzard messed the naming of that part up a little. To explain:

Maces and Scepters are in a common class called Blunt weapons. Other weapon types that are included in this class are Clubs, Wands, Staffs and Hammers. They share the trait that they all have 50%ED to undead as standard mod and all of these weapon types work with the Barbarian Mace Mastery skill. However, for runewords it's important to know the individual subclass they belong to. Scepters are not in the Mace class, despite what shows up on the screen.

The most common option for Black is a Flail (or the exceptional or elite version).

Re: Cancelling Uber Meph's Conviction

Is this a glitch? i dont understand why this works?
Because aura's from different sources don't stack (except when both aura's come from an item), say two Pala's having Fana active, but the one with the highest level is used. If you have conviction active and it is higher than Meph's your conviction will be used on you which doesn't lower your resistances.

The reason why Meph's conviction still works on other members of your party is because you don't count as source of conviction for your party members (you don't lower the resistances of them with conviction).

Ah ok, that makes sense :)

And conviction lowers bosses defence too?

Maxing salvation would help you and your party though?

Sorry, i'm hijacking the thread

Aha, thank you, I just needed this to be confirmed. Disappointing, but it makes sense.

Looks like I will be using Salvation, then, and buying some Flails off of Fara for Black.

HeroQuest-- I'm pretty sure salvation will help you and your party, but I don't believe it is a very good idea to max it, because of diminishing returns. Either let +skills items do the work or put about five points into it I think.
