Can someone help with sorc

Ok So I wanna start a new sorc cause my current one is pretty boring.

I have 20 meteor, 20 orb, 17 fireball, and 20 fire mastery with skills in each tree for thunder storm etc.

I was wondering what happened to nova sorcs? I just came back and I had a novaorb sorc 5 years ago. I wanna live the old days again, can anyone tell me if thats good? I hate chain lightning and these days and blizzard.

Its weird how the economy and this game has changed, I prefer it old school, thats why my barb uses arreats, shaft, doombringer, and storm shield and string. Hes terrible though but whatever.

If not ill just create a sorc with maxed hydra instead of meteor.

Can anyone tell me if nova is completetely useless?

Nova takes some pretty good equipment and a lot of mana, but it's still a solid option if you can get the gear for it. As my personal minimum:

105% Faster Cast Rate
+ 8 skills (preferably more; 12+ recommended)
800 mana (preferably a lot more; 1100+ recommended with Insight, or ~1800+ without)
~50+ resistances (preferably more)

... if you can't swing that, then I wouldn't bother with nova.

FYI, I've built 3 novasorcs, and found one definite fact that they each shared: If your nova does enough damage to force monsters into hit recovery (by removing more than 12% of their total life in one hit), then you'll be safe and have a good time. And if your damage doesn't reach that 12% minimum, your novasorc will be a lot more perilous. Since I don't have Infinity, even with all kinds of other good equipment, this 'rule-of-thumb' meant I was stuck in games with a smaller number of players (not a problem for me since I play single player).



FYI, hydra's pretty decent still, as long as you spend ~60+ skillpoints to synergize it.

8-12 +skills? Charms give more than that.

Of course, many people can't afford that. I think infinity is quite fun on a nova sorc. You can try to synergize the chain lightnings by putting points in lightning and charged bolt too.

You don't need to damage 12% of a monsters life. It's 1/12, meaning 8,33% of the enemy's life

Ok so I built my sorc. I maxed fm, hydra and and fb. I was wondering if I should max out orb OR firebolt cause ive got one point in each, or should I put 10 in each?

Hey thanks I had nova orb sorc in 1.09 with around 1500 mana and 1k hp It was damn nice to play with it nova stunning enemies etc. If I go back to LOD i really wanna try it again I think my old sorc even had 10 points in static(20+ after skills) and max warmth and 10+ in eshield. I can't remember how the eshield worked back then since there was no telekines needed.. so it always took 1 mana for 1 damage?

I wonder if I could get nova working with full energy ES sorc, that would guarantee a lot of +lightning skills, then take a orb there to kill lightning immunes, what you think?

I too miss the glory days of an orb/es/nova sorc. However you can still get those glory days by going orb/chain light there's a guide for it and its ridiculously fun to play, ridiculous. I really love the style of play its more fun than my nova sorc. However, you need good gear and you have to allocate correctly in point allocation.

I do agree with what sirpoopsalot you need a lot of fc. You can get that through any combo of either Spirit monarch shield, arachnids mesh, any of the unique orbs, grif's eye if possible, magefists, vipermagi

Even with maxed out nova & LM with a buttload of + skills nova isn't worth it in my opinion but chain lightning/lightning definitely is.
