Can some one tell me about hydra?

I would just like to know how hydra dmg is calculated. Some one told me that fire dmg of hydra was divided between the three heads. He was a paladin so I was hoping he didnt know what he was talking about.

So any info on hydra would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JRyan :innocent:

Just look at the skills next under the fire hydra skill. It says what skills to lvl up. Just max out hydra, fire mastery, and the skills that they say to lvl up. If you cant max all skills just even them out. Later :cheesy:

No its not, just like the damage from charged bolt is not split up between the # of bolts.

Is your last name ryan because so is mine :howdy:

Damaged displayed on the skill Hydra is damage per fire bolt, that a Hydra head releases. The explanation of your friend makes no sense at all.

How should that damage be divided?
Its not like the one hydra you cast has 3 seperate heads. Thats JUST an animation! It might look like each head releasing a bolt, but thats about it.

Each bolt carries the damage displayed.

It's damage per firebolt the hydra releases. Just increase mastery, hydra and its synergies and you'll deal plenty of damage per casting. FCR will get you up to 4-5 hydras alive at a time. And they cast fairly fast especially when they are right on top of the enemy. It takes time to get to know how and where to cast hydras but its very doable.

That pally know little about hydras he is thinking of inferno not hydra damage. Have you ever seen a hydra pally? They can exist just look up unique elite pally shields.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I considered trying to make some build for a paladin out of dragonscale shield at one time but they told me it was not fessible and he showed the last part of calculation as divide by three. I was thinking that a hydradin could get like several hundred fire dmg per bolt but he told me more like 140 fire dmg. Now I can make my Hydra Sorc without fear.

Thanks,
JRyan

With everything maxed and some +skill items you should easily be doing over 1k per bolt. You'll be able to get maybe 4 hydras out at the same time, and you're fireball will be over 2 or 3k. So damage should be alright.

Hmm... actually I think I might build a hydra sorc myself now...

With everything maxed and +skills you will be doing ALOT more damage. Here just some figures from my FB/Hydra/Fo Hybrid:
20 Firebolt
20 Fireball: 3273-3590 damage
20 Hydra: 1221-1391 damage
1 FM
+12 skills

20 Frozen Orb
1 CM

93 pts with 1 Static, Warmth, Telekinesis, Teleport, Frozen Armor, Shiver Armor

Finished at lvl81. After that put anything else into Fire Mastery, or divide between FM and CM. I decided to put all into FM, so atm (lvl84) i have a 4k Fireball and a 1.6k Hydra.

Everything relevant in the Firetree maxed would yield:
20 Firebolt
20 Fireball 5307-5821
20 Hydra 1981-2255
20 FM
+12 skills

I tend to guess conservatively, and I was basing the numbers on a lot less +skill. But it's nice to know the damage can get a lot higher.

4-4.5k hydra around the realistic peak possible but that is with 10 fire skillers so not very pvm viable. For pvm at lvl 99 you could have max orb, 1 point CM, one point teleport, one point frozen armor, max hydra, max fire ball, max fire bolt and max fire mastery. With a fairly realistic +12 skill that grants and +1 fire skills from magefist:

450 orb (-80% resist)
6.2k fireball
2.4k hydra

Hydra works great for taking out dangerous monsters. It doesn't kill as quick as meteor for instance, but you can kill with near total safety by allowing your hydras to shoot around corners. Hydrorb with spammable fireball would be very viable though skill point intensive.

As for hydra in pvp, they can be useful, but you won't likely catch teleporters with much skill.
