Can sins be useful to parties?

I started this ladder with a Trapper, but I have little experience with party adventuring. Yesterday I joined a full Cow game with my lvl 25 Sin, the other member were all 24-27 lvls. As soon as we steped in Moo-moo farm I started MBlasting to ease the pressure on the guys. It was working until one of them Yelled: DON'T MIND BLAST! Being polite, I resumed and just traped instead but i noticed Sentries were not even scratching Bovines. Soon, the party got overwhelmed with most of them dying fast. The I ask you: is Mind Blast frowned upon or that guy was simply being an a**? Is there another thing you can do as an Sin for party support? (CoS maybe?)

The stun effect is great for parties, however if you find yourself converting many that slows down the overall killingspped as the converted can't be harmed. This is especially a problem in baalruns. Otherwise people shouldn't complain about it I guess.

use death sentry a lot in pvm, it causes corpse explosion, which dishes out a fair amount of damage.

CoS is really useful too at times, I wouldn't advise MB except for really dangerous situations because it just slows down the killspeed (like jako said).

Assasins are useful for damage and Cloak of Shadows. Also Mind Blast can be useful if the party is not very powerful. I would rate the Assasin as the 2nd most useless party character, only beaten by the Amazon. :azn:

By party character I mean someone who contributes with other things than damage. The Amazon only has the Decoy, Slow Missiles and the Valkyrie as viable party skills. The Assasin has Cloak of Shadows, which is one of the best utilities in the game, and Mindblast for critical situations. I rate the Assasin as better than the Amazon just because of Cloak of Shadows in not so powerful parties.

Edit: Regarding Shadwo Master, I find it annoying because it has a strange fetish for using Mind Blast when there are only 1 enemy all the time. Then you have to wait for the conversion to go away before she continues to Mind Balst.

Consider using CoS instead of Mindblast. There are probably players who are annoyed by the darkness, but you don't have the problem that jakotaco described.

Overall I'd say that 'sins are not the greatest party characters, but I never mind having one around for MB, CoS and Shadow Master as a nice meat shield.

Mind Blast is a very useful "party" skill against the cows ... especially at low levels. COS can be irritating because although it may assist those in your immediate vicinity, it makes it more difficult to see cows on the edge of the screen.

I suspect that your "DON'T MIND BLAST" friend was probably just a beginner.

While I personally find Hurricane, Charged Bolt, Meteor and Revives more irritating than the assassin skills, I wouldn't dream of asking someone not to use their skills ... if it bothered me that much, I'd leave and join/create another game.

I only ever use mind blast as a very desperate thing, I mean only in the face of certain death do I mind blast anything, I also find the conversion annoying as hell...

cloak of shadows is the way to go, as for the cows at the end of screen, doesn’t really matter to much as they would be attacking anyways.

Too the OP, don’t worry about your damage at lvl25 you only 2 points in LS and so it isn’t doing any decent damage, that will change.

things that make sins good in parties:

CoS, can give the party a lot of breathing room, especially vs. archers etc

MB, can save lives, I’m sure we have all experienced souls and I can say I’ve saved many toons that are level 95+ with some high speed spamming

Death Sentry, huge source of damage as it provides corpse explosion, a skill that can flatten the entire cow with out breaking in to a sweat.

With my kicker I always spammed mind blast to create meat shields. If you convert half a mob by the time you kick the rest to death the others will convert back. I've also found the skill quite usefull because I always have dragon flight on left click so if I'm running sometimes I'll flight into a mob and spamming mind blast really helps.

once i used mind blast to convert a few cows and they killed the king X_X
i learned my lesson that time...in cow games try not to use mind blast when youre next to the king. i tend to find the conversion effect very useful in chaos games more than anything else.
