can mercenaries use auras while your character aura is on?

i have a fanatic zealot (clvl45) and am trying to find a good merc to pair with him. what i've heard is the act II holy frost (nightmare) is the way to go. i've been using a normal lvl act II merc (defence) just to get used to it ( he's supposed to be using defiance?), but his aura never goes on. fanaticism lvl 15 is normally on. is this the problem? should i pick another merc? i was hoping for a double aura, maybe this is a pipe dream. any advice?

Multiple aura's work just fine, unless it's the exact same aura. Thne it usually just uses the highest level aura.

However, Defiance + Fanaticism should work just fine. Keep in mind that you only see on aura animation at a time, even if multiple are active. It just keeps switching between the animations every now and then.

Also, sometimes the merc auras activate pretty unreliably. They do a check about activating the aura every time they attack a monster. If you're killing monsters fast enough taht the merc isn't getting any action, it might take a good while for the merc to pass that check.
