can melee chars be immune/tank magic dmg?

hey all. im tired of all my melee chars being smacked around by hammerdins, and i dont like makin casters, so i was wondering if it was possible to proof against magic dmg like u can proof against elements. this is for my dreamdin, so if anyone has some tips on dueling hammers, they would be appreciated.

some questions:

-does +X magic absorb act as a % in duels like magic dmg reduced by X??
if so, how much of both would i need to get a good charge or two on a pally surrounded in hammers.

here is the gear i've found so far with the two mods against magic dmg:

-dwarf star (x2)
-cresent moon ammy
-cresent moon runeword
-oath runeword
-spirit shield
-glad bane

if anyone else nos items with X magic absorb or magic dmg reduced by X, lmk.
also needa no the answer to my question about magic absorb.

Dwarf (x2):
Magic Damage Reduced By 12-15 (varies)

Crescent Moon:
Magic Damage Reduced By 10

Cresent Moon runeword:
+9-11 Magic Absorb (varies)

Oath:
+10-15 Magic Absorb (varies)

Spirit shield:
+3-8 Magic Absorb (varies)

Glad Bane:
Magic Damage Reduced By 15-20 (varies)

Lets assume they all have max magic dmg reduce:

15+15+10 (dwarf*2+crescent amu) reduced and 15+8 absorbed (oath+spirit). Which means that a very low hammer, who does 1000 dmg after pvp penalties will be reduced to 960, then absorbed to 937+23 life gained after being hit. Even if you use 3*mal helm and socket glad bane with mal, a good hammerdin will still kill you in 1-3 hits while it takes a lot llonger for you to kill him. :(

hold up though. when using magic damage reduced by X in pvp, it acts as magic damage reduced by X%, so u have to figure it out that way. ur calc should be damage is reduced by 400, not 40, so a 1k hammer would do about 600. still, im not sure if absorbs work the same way in pvp (as a %) so if no one nos ill have to experiment.

I seriously doubt it. Besides if you sacrifice too much gear to resist anything, you probably won't be able to kill them.

nope, magic damage reduce by x% is different than magic damage reduce by x, besides there are no magic damage reduce by % items. i am 100% sure about this.

as said.. safety shield can have 10% magic resistance... but this is pretty much worthless.. (its 10%....)

the only way magic will ever be counterable is if new words/items granted more up to around 50%magic resistance and about 25% magic absorb%

untill then dont even bother.... the only thing u can be immune to is some low level dueling 21 hammerdin or necro hitting 60pvp
