If I max C mastery, it will reduce cold resist by 115. Is that enough to solo Ã¼ber?
I fear no.
1/ CM doesn't break cold immunity (Uber Baal is cold immune)
2/ Beating Ubers is based on "crushing blow" I don't think with spell alone you can even kill a non-cold-immune Uber (Uber Mephisto for example) because of it's fast regeneration and the fact that it will kill you before you kill him (see 3 thereafter)
3/ Beating Uber is also based on life leech or life tap (to stay alive) ; life tap doesn't work with spells.
4/ I don't know of a Sorc soloing UT ; but maybe it could be done using a weird sorc melee build. But in any case this is not the easy route.
Cold Mastery's -% Enemy Cold Resistance only applies to monsters when Cold Resist < 100%. For it to apply to uber Diablo's hidden 115% cold immunity, that immunity would have to be removed first: an Infinity polearm's Level 12 Conviction Aura When Equipped would do so, reducing it from 115% to 98% (115 - [85/5] ), then Cold Mastery's -115% ECR could reduce this to -17%.
Uber Baal's hidden 185% cold immunity can never be removed, so he is always Immune to Cold.
So what about a Tri-elemental Sorc? People say she's weak, is it true? But if not, could she solo Ã¼ber?
I've beaten Hell on /players8 with a tri-elemental sorceress, something most people never bother doing. It definitely works. And in a way, yeah, it's pretty weak. The damage output of a dual-tree sorceress is much higher.
People generally solo ubers only with melee builds, and pretty specific melee builds at that. A tri-element sorceress would be a poor choice for ubers. She would be defensively weak and would not be able to outpace their massive regeneration. Her best bet would be to equip a weapon with Revive charges, recruit urdars from the River of Flame, and teleport the swarm of urdars onto the ubers. With the right gear, it just might be possible, but I don't see why you'd want to do it when other builds would work so much better...
And there are monsters in uber thats immune to every element, except physical.
Baal is always going to be Immune to Cold (185%), and in the Pandemonium Event as a whole the same is true of Duriel (150%) and Izual (185%), so cold damage may not need to be included.
Diablo is also Immune to Cold (115%), and both he and Baal are also Immune to Fire (110% and 115% respectively) with Lightning Resist 75%. Mephisto is Immune to Lightning (110%) and enchanted with level 20 Conviction, with Fire and Cold Resist 75%. Both Diablo's immunities and Baal's fire immunity can be removed by an Infinity polearm's Level 12 Conviction Aura When Equipped, but if the Sorceress equips it herself she'll have trouble equipping enough -% Enemy Fire Resistance to capitalise, and if her Desert mercenary equips it then he has to survive (bearing in mind that uber bosses apply 200% damage to him while he only applies 25% damage to them, and any % Life Stolen per hit is also quartered so < 4% becomes 0%, 4-7% becomes 1% and so on).
Of course, hardly anyone has tried to take them on with non-physical damage because the Pit Lords that can be found in the Furnace of Pain and which can be summoned by Diablo are always immune to everything but physical damage (since 1.13, Blessed Hammer no longer ignores their magic immunity), and the most well-known means of stopping uber damage regeneration is Open Wounds (Prevent Monster Heal does not apply, Lilith is always Immune to Poison (185%) and Mephisto's poison immunity (110%) can only be removed by level > 9 Lower Resist, which requires a Necromancer), which can only be applied by attacks.
However, damage regeneration doesn't occur in any frame in which a unit takes at least 1/256 point of damage, so there is another way to stop it: fire damage per second, which is normally applied every frame. If a Sorceress could remove the fire immunities of Diablo and Baal, then she could potentially use Blaze, Fire Wall or Meteor (ideally the latter, as the duration of its fires increases with skill level) to halt the damage regeneration of all, and make shorter work of Diablo or Baal with Static Field. Actually, it might be best to use Fire Spells solely to stop damage regeneration (even level 1 Meteor will apply at least 1/256 fire damage per frame to Fire Resist 99%), then use Cold Spells with Cold Mastery against Mephisto and Diablo, and Lightning Spells against Baal.
However, removing their immunities is contingent on an Infinity polearm, and ideally that means keeping a Desert mercenary alive. A protective escort of Revived summoned using an Eternity Rune Word weapon's charges could help, as might Marrowwalk Unique Boneweave Boots and their Life Tap charges.
