Can AIDS kill you?

Recently I've been having this discussion with a friend about whether or not AIDS can kill you. I think that AIDS can kill you, whereas my friend says it's an AIDS-related infection that kills you and not the actual AIDS virus itself (e.g pnuemonia).

The reason I'm posting this thread is to see what the general viewpoint is from the OTF posters

HIV can kill you directly via brain, liver, or heart damage, but 95% of the time it kills by weakening the immune system.

Afaik HIV affects and infects the T-helpers, which makes the immunesystem go bananas, which in the end leads to a normal nonharming desease to kill you.

Remember that AIDS is just a name for a set of symptoms that occur when HIV has taken a firm hold on your system.

Yes and of course should not be confused with NIDS.

AIDS also was used for radiation AIDS as well.

Normally it's a HIV/AIDS related infection, but to say that HIV/AIDS didn't kill someoen is like saying "falling out of a plane at 10,000 feet without a parachute doesn't kill you, it's the sudden deceleration at the end" or "the bomb blast didn't kill you, it was the pieces of shrapnel that tore through your body'. If you didn't fall 10,000 feet, but instead only fell 2 feet, and if the 'bomb' was the strength of a firecracker then neither the fall nor the schrapnel would have done you any harm.

HIV travels easiest through anal sex and intravenous drug use. Despite what they teach you in health class, there's very little transmitted through vaginal sex (in either direction.)

My wife works with Aids HIV Infected people, consoling benefits etc.
While I agree with you in general, I know of some people that got it from vaginal sex with prostitutes and many that got it from partners vaginally.
If you married/regular partner to someone that has it and don't know it, it's almost guaranteed you will get it.
It may take a few hundred trys but there are 365 days in a year.
and it can happen with one Bill Clinton Monica Lewinsky type act.
So that counts as sex.

STD rates in sex workers is significantly lower than the rest of the population, for obvious reasons.
