i dont know what you mean by solo...if you mean solo all the way with only the items you find, you might have some trouble. but my twinked bone necro does hell fine

my very first char ever in d2 on b.net in 1.10, was a Bonemancer and I took him all the way to Hell baal and beyond, with no help from others in the form of rushing. If you consider trading as twinking then yes I did run NM quite abit to gather pgems, and equipped him similar to a level 30 pvp bonemancer.
Just make sure you make use of your curses, they can be your best friends especially dim vision.

I've gotten a Meleemancer through Hell. You're gonna tell me you can't get a Bonemancer through Hell?

You might want to read the stickied guides if you are having trouble. Are you "pure" bone?
Your main attack is bone spear. Shop in normal Act2 at Drogan for a 2 socket +3 spear bone wand. If you are patient you can get a good curse or two on the wand too.
All you need is Dol and Io to make the "white" runeword. Those are easily attainable even in single player. Do a little countess running and cubing and you are there.
I max spear first, then wall, then prison, then spirit, and put leftovers in teeth. One point in bone armor gives you quite good protection with the synergies from your other skills.
Shop in act3 for a teleport staff in case you get trapped by your own walls.
I've played a number of bonemancers both ladder and single player. My single player bonemancer is level 90 something.
You can run bonemancers anywheres solo once you learn good wall placement. Block off corridors before you pass them so you don't get suprised. Remember to use your corpse explosion!

Getting a bonemancer through hell isn't that hard if you ask me. I have a bonemancer myself and I'm doing fine in hell and I have really bad gear. I can't hit above the 2k and I'm doing fine so if you can get some decent gear you'll have no problem getting through hell.
And as Grumpy said learn to use wall and for bosses as andy, duriel and mephisto just bone prison them I always do this and I won't get hit by any of them.

Update
I ran into some luck - made a perfect insight and found some high runes (2 x ber 1 x um 2 x pul) which, after some trading, I turned into an enigma, shako and torch.
Now I can finally kill something - and without having to drink mana potions every 3 seconds too!
I'm progressing through hell fine now; however, I still don't see how I was gonna be able to do it with the gear that I had -
It took 2 blue orbs to take down a normal zombie with my 1kish bone spear

My bonemancer can do hell pretty well. In a game of 7, it's harder and very long but with patience you can do it He's level 89 and I don't have all my dream gear, CG, etc... I have lot of fun to play with. Also he can do uber! Ok OK, I do it with my friend, he have a smiter.
P.S. I really enjoy my clay golem. 1 pts in Clay golem, golem mastery and resist. With all the +skill he slow monster very well and he can tank alot.
