Calculating Weapon Speed

How do you do it without using a weapon speed calculator? This subject is what confuses me the most . Is it that hard to do?

I'm still confused on different whirlwind speeds when using dual wield. The German calc says 2 FPA is max with dual wield whirlwind, but I'm not sure if thats correct or not. People find many bugs dealing with that calc, and it deals with half frames, which I don't even think is possible. Do different weapon types have different speeds for different characters (i.e. swords for barbs, claws for sins)?

Not sure about the rest but weapons have different speeds for different characters.

If you look on the Items Database under weapons it gives the base weapon speed for every weapon in the game for each of the characters.

It is! You may read the concept of it here, though (look at the end).

@All. Who knows where JRichard’s page about the topic is? I cannot find it, — just raw html without images in my own D2 knowledge base.

The 2 FPA is correct for dual wield whirlwind. Ignoring the first hit, at max speed, each weapon can hit at 4fpa, [edit: which averages to 2fpa. thanks RTB]

The halfframes are because they average speeds. If your a dual wielding barb, then you might have one weapon swinging at 7 fpa and one at 6 fpa. The calc averages to 6.5 fpa.

Edit: removed erroniousness.

No, if both are at the same breakpoint then they'll hit in the same frame. No offsets, because WW only does attack checks every 4 frames if the weapon(s) used is/are fast enough.

In some cases (normal attack) the game can display two different animations with different lengths. For example, the assassin's two normal attacks with claw/shield: straight hit and a slash.

How accurate is that weapen speed calc? I used it to check the bps for my paladin who uses Zeal and a Heaven´s Light Mighty Scepter. According to the wsp the bps is 20, 63 and 200% but testing this I see an improvment in speed going from 40 to 60% IAS but none from 60 to 65%.

Are you sure you totaled all your IAS from all your gear (both on-weapon and off-weapon)? Are you using fanatacism?

I´ve double checked all my gear and my IAS is as stated before. 20% from weapon, 20% from Amu and 25% from IK gloves + belt. Switching to gloves with 20% IAS gives me 60% which should be below the 63% bp but the speed is the same. Taking the gloves of gives me 40% IAS and then I see a definite speed drop. I'm not using fanatism, using Holy Freeze.
