Re: Built in Clock
Precisely. Besides it is something that can be set at console level and only those willing to use it will see it running on some corner of the screen in small type. No idea why the resistance.
I know you're not talking specifically to me, but I'll answer anyway
I'm not resistant to the idea, I really don't care if they include it or not. I just have a couple problems with the idea, one micro and one macro.
On a small scale, I just question the necessity of it. It's not like clocks are extremely rare. Everything has a clock on it these days, and the idea that it's easier to have a clock constantly running in game rather than glancing over to look at a real clock seems nitpicky to me. What does it add, really?
For that matter, we could add any number of unnecessary addons. I want an mp3 player built into Diablo 3, so I don't have to use my stereo. I want the /pizza command that was in everquest because I don't want to take my eyes off the game to order food. All things that can be done just as easily (if not easier) outside of the game, yet we need to include them in it?
On a broader scale, I think this symbolizes a larger problem. If the point is to make you aware of how long you've been playing the game, looking away from the screen will benefit you. If you are unable to take a moment during a down time (which Diablo 2 had plenty of... towns, game creation, aftermath of a big battle, etc), to look away from the screen, I think it is indicative of a larger problem, and an ingame clock is not going to help you.
