Built in Clock

Built in Clock

Given that I have a way of losing myself in computers games. Sometimes I play for what feels like a few minutes, turn to look back at the clock and realize a considerable amount of the day is gone.

It would be nice if they included either a clock into the interface, maybe either the lower left or right corner.

Or so that they you don't lose to much immersiveness they could just have a simple /command.

Maybe two even.

/clock

/time (to tell you how long you have been playing)

Guildwars had pop-ups after a hour that tell you to rest, I just find those annoying.

Or you could buy a $10 alarm clock and place it on your desk?

Re: Built in Clock

If you have tried an alarm clock you would know that it has a way of going off right in the middle of a baal run.

So using an alarm clock quickly because an exercise in how quickly you can hit the snooze button and tell yourself just 5-10 more minutes.

I like to manage my time more consciously. The alarm-clock method is closer to the the Guildwars method.

Because this like other blizzard games will probably draw you right into it. I would prefer the solution to overplaying be something in game like one of the solutions I mentioned in my first post.

What's the difference between not using the commands and pressing snooze every 10 minutes?

It's not that I only like to consciously manage my time but I know that it works better.

After you hit the snooze button more then once it becomes more of a subconscious act and before you know it you have hit that thing 10-15 times without ever even noticing it.

Put it on the other side of the room, link it to an amplifier?

Re: Built in Clock

That might work, but it would be far more annoying then the aforementioned Guildwars pop-ups.

I put tic toc title in my startup folder. It puts the time in the title bar of all your windows. If you play diablo2 windowed (-w) then you will get the time in the top right of you window while playing. No alarm clock sorry.

Re: Built in Clock

In any case, I do like the idea of a game built-in clock.
Always found these should be almost obligatory.

I'd advise the official forums for this suggestion. You can even ask if they plan to implement one, instead of suggesting. Bashiok tends to answer questions more than he comments on suggestions. And the issue doesn't fall into any of the game mechanics that Blizzard wouldn't want to divulge yet.

So you're playing this game on a computer that when minimized, has a clock.
You're playing a game that when entering the command /thetime (I think that's it) it will show you the time.
Cell phones, them neat lil devices, can be kept right on your computer desk where your peripheral vision will detect it, allowing you to check the time. Assuming you have one.
No clocks on the wall near you?

Refer to my second post.

Re: Built in Clock

I have a clock in the same room as my computer. Every couple minutes I tend to glance at it, which tells me what time it is.

I have no problem with putting a clock in the game, but come on. I think your issue is not the absence of an in game clock, but an absence of responsibility. If you can't be bothered to glance off the screen (maybe when you're back in town or something? The whole game isn't Baal runs you know...), you're just too lazy.

Maybe they should put a calendar also... Or a Grocery reminder just for you to remember... Be serius!

Re: Built in Clock

He's just asking for a clock and a timer.

You know... it's not really a new gingerbread monster or a spaceship-like level that would make you rip your hair off. Keep it in perspective please. Lose the overreaction.

EDIT: Anyway, I went ahead and asked about it on the official forums. We'll see if its worth an official reply.

So don't set the alarm. You're asking for a clock. Like someone said, buy a 10 dollar alarm clock to keep next to you. Just don't set your alarm.

Re: Built in Clock

Regardless of whether or not he is responsible I feel an in game clock would be very welcomed for the sole fact that if you plan to X-fer by ones self it is much easier to determine if enough time has gone by to leave the game successfully. And honestly it's not that hard of a feature to add.

Re: Built in Clock

Precisely. Besides it is something that can be set at console level and only those willing to use it will see it running on some corner of the screen in small type. No idea why the resistance.
