Breaking Poison Immunities

Heya heya and well met.

I have been playing a Venomancer for a while now, and noticed that there are quite many poison-immune monsters, which are unaffected by lvl 1 base lower resist.

The question is - is it worth to invest more points to lower? If not, what skills are good for secondary damage or protection after poison is maxed?

Thanks for your time :)

Well as a venomancer I would suggest getting around -60% from LR anyway. That'll boost your dmg against anything that isn't poison immune alot. And there will be monsters that you won't break with below -30% resist , but with -60 you will. Ofcourse there will always be a few monsters you can't kill with poison nova , but you should have a merc for those few monsters. Or another kind of attack ofcourse. :D

The normal trend is 1 in LR but i see it wouldn't be too bad if you a few points to spare.

Normally +skill or +necro skills can beef LR up quite a bit. I would advise against putting too many points into it or even maxing it. Diminished returns. !!

Okey, thanks fellows :)

Maybe I'll save the points now and see how well I can kill with +items later. I'm building a max-blocker with Trang shield, and try to get marrows to boost the bone armor (and dex) up now.. The build seems to work pretty well in one-player pit at level 72. Might put points to summons or bone wall if not to lr..

A possible course of action would be to complete Trangs, and sink remaining points into skeletons (assuming you already have a golem).

Your skeletons would not only help to protect you; they would also deal some physical damage (probably not as much as you would with a Skelemancer build, but they aren't your primary attack anyway), and they would STOP the monsters. That way, you can use the TO firewalls to barbeque the poison immunes... just keep some spices at hand, or they'll taste bland afterwards.

Revives might be able to stop monsters as well.

A "full Trangs"-firewll is reasonably effective.

Also, since you are using poison as your primary attack, your +skills will probably be concentrated in the p&b tree. This also increases the range of your corpse explosion... so after your skellies/firewalls have created some crispy corpses, refrain from eating them and blow them up instead for huge amounts for non-poison damage.

That's just an idea, of course. I guess my Trangs-Skelemancer history is showing.

Welcome Newcomer to The Darkness. Grab a brew :drink: and feel free to raise some corpses.

Unless you are going for a Poison-hybrid you might as well put in a few points. Sure you will probably hit the points of diminishing returns with just 1 point and +skills, but after you have maxed what needs to be maxed you will have a lot of points left and LR is the only skill we have that can break PI.

Unfortunately SP in the hybrid build is very stingy therefore he hasn't got the points to spare for skeletons mastery if he wants to power up his poison skills first. It is a option to max them first but most would max Poison skills first before SM. My Venomancer hybrid would finish the *ideal* build at round slvl 99 before it can be classed as finished. So you can guess that it pretty hard finishing the build itself.

For the Record Trangs set is already well known and Ideal for the Venomancer and has been since the hybrid first came out. That like a year ago. You can read more on kbobs faq and the 2 venomancer guides out there. Sorry it already patent :D

Ok, heya again.. and thanks for the beer :)

I just soloed hell/a2 using only pnova, corpse-explosion and an act1 merc with low'ish items. Not so easy but pretty fun actually.

I have now points in the following skills:
pdagger 20
pexplosion 20
pnova 20
corpse explosion 1
bone armor 1
bone wall 1

one point in every curse, and no points yet in summoning skills. about 7 unused skills.. I'm getting around +7 to all skills right now. (at level 75)

What I'm afraid about the summons is that I'm lacking the skill-points to make them effective.. usually act2 freeze-merc has been a nice enough meat shield for me with other chars.

About trang - it sure has nice abilities but I have never liked the vampiric looks :/

Of course...a CE with a goodish radius deals Physical damage..so there is your answer. Merc can also help :D

Am I the only one who looooves the Vampire look? And the fact that you walk at running speed AND get no block penalty...

- The look is boring
- The run/walk speed bonus is great
- The barrel-kicking penalty sucks

So... it's somewhat even for me. Look doesn't affect gameplay, and there is one bonus (in addition to the documented set bonus) that I like and one penalty that I dislike.
