bowazon merc wep help

hey i use a faith and have a might merc
im in the process of making an eth cv pride (need Lo now) for the conc aura. the added dmg will be nice, however i was wondering, infinity lowers defence of enemies yes? does anyone know by how much or how effective it is for a melee character to use? plus pride has low dmg.
ps i use atma's for amp dmg so i take out PI monsters already as well.

Infinity lowers the enemy elemental resists. Will do you nothing with your physical skills. Stay with the Pride plan.

it does lower defense. to find out by how much, check the arreat summit under the offensive auras tab. BUT you already have an ITD weapon and besides that faith has a good chunk of AR for the enemies you cant use ITD on. it also wouldnt do anything for your actual physical damage as krem says, it'll just make things a tad easier to hit.

For a pure bower who is using faith, it'd a waste to use an infinity on your merc.

Though getting some crushing blow isn't a bad idea for a merc weapon, as bosses are one of the major pains for bowzons.

And if your main concern is getting CB, an Obedience is a much nicer weapon when concerning price: 40CB + 370ed, -25% Target Def

Add another vote for ethereal "Obedience." I have two of them now. Lovely Merc weapons for general PvM and boss squishing.

"Infinity" would work on an elemental Amazon, like a Lightning Javazon or Frostmaiden...but it doesn't really work so well, I think, on a normal Bowazon.

Posted this merc plan in the Paladin forum, but I also use it on my bowazon, so here you go:

Act 3 Cold Merc
FoJ (phase blade so you can liquidate if you need to)
Dragon armor (eth if you can dedicate this to a pure merc set)
Dream helm <-----|
Dream shield (both eth as well works wonders, but w/e)

(for the mathematically challenged this creates both level 30 Holy Fire and level 30 Holy Shock. It averages 2-3k pulse dmg every 2 seconds)

This creates the classic Auradin in merc form with a sorc twist in the way of his cold blasts. You will see a sickly sweet pulse every time you dart through a crowd of ailing baddies. If you're an immo-zon you can see the added bonuses.

Either way highly expensive but by far the most fun I've ever had playing this game. I have this build on both my zon and my auradin mercs (it's like playing with another auradin, classy)

Edit--------------------------------

You also might want to try this with a frost maiden (Ice gmb). I use a pfaith gmb personally.

Correct me please regarding Infinity and its mods. I have been under the impression that the minus to lightening resist(independent of the aura) worked only for the character holding the weapon and was not a "party wide" effect.

A trap sin for example would hold Infinity to amplify the effect of their traps.

the -res does only work for the holder. the conviction aura though grants these things:
-83% defense
-85% maximum res

also in your example the -res on the runeword itself (not the aura) wouldnt affect traps as they're considered minions and arent affected by that or %light damage (such as facets).

Re: bowazon merc wep help

Item -% res only work for the wielder of the item that has the mod, be it a merc or a player. Cold mastery works the same way as item based -% res. The one using this mod can *pierce* a targets resistance.

As in "my arrows can pierce your armor but the guy next to me doesn't have this mod, meaning he can't pierce your armor".

Skill -% res (except cold mastery) work for all who attack that monster, be it a merc, player or summon. The monster under the effect of such skills have their resistance *lowered* or *removed*.

As in "I removed your armor and now you'll take full damage no matter who attacks you".

Skill -% res also have the property to remove immunes, where they will have their effectiveness cut to 1/5. Item -%res can only take affect on those who aren't immune, including those who have had their immunity broken by skill -%res.

Traps = minions, just like skeletons, aka they are not the wielder of any item -%res.

The only minion that benefit from -%res on items is the sorcs hydras iirc.

I don't see how the 2 auras reach 2-3k pulse damage. I ran the numbers in a skill calc and see only 44.5 (ave lvl30 holy fire pulse damage) + 139.5 (ave lvl30 holy shock pulse damage).

Also, Act3 Iron wolves do not engage in melee combat so much if you meant the fire+lighting damage to weapon granted by the 2 auras... in fact I've never seen them melee but that maybe because I never tried them extensively.
