    Bob Jones University

I was perusing the website of this non-accredited university, which just happens to be down the street from me, and thought it was hilarious. This university is known to be the far far far right wing fundamentalists of the nation, and they're known for such things as banning interracial dating, having a dress code similar to that of the amish (girls have to wear dresses below the ankles), strict internet filtering, the banning of any sort of video device, the banning of watching any movies above G (and even some G movies--Bambi's mom dying might upset some of them I guess), just to name a few.

Thought I might share the site with you, just for some laughs.

Expectations of the student, including dating guidelines (6 inches rule)

what not to bring (contemporary christian music is the DEVIL)

    hahaha...

I dont know if I should laugh or be very afraid. I find it hard to see how living in a bubble is going to prepare you for life in the real world.

    Holy crap...
This is great...I wonder how many students they get each year.
I'm surprised that they didn't change the college's name, since it's "BJ" U.

According to their website they have a student body of 5,000 from every state in the Union and 43 foreign countries.

Are you sure they aren't accredited? I can't imagine why anybody would waste their time at an unaccredited institution.

Does this thread really need to exist? It's a giant, "hahahaha, these people have different beliefs than me, let's all laugh at them" kind of thing. :(

I'm sorry, but when their belief system is that terrible against basic human rights, I feel they should be at the very least made fun of. I think its terrible that they don't allow interracial dating, and even worse that they do so on "Christian" premises.

    In response to dirkdig:

Yeah, but it's not like they're forcing anyone to go to their school. Anyone who attends that school does so by choice, fully aware of the rules of the school.

    Not true.
A lot of kids are forced there by their parents.
I was talking to my hair cutter last week, very pretty, outgoing girl. She's from Wisconsin, and her parents forced her to go there to continue her education. She's a devout Christian and wanted to follow the "honoring parents" commandment, plus it was the only school her parents would pay for her to go to.
The kids that go there obviously don't have any freedom while they're there; I'm inclined to believe that no one that had freedom to begin with when they were living with their parents would actually choose to go to a school that wouldn't allow them the same place. I bet a lot of kids are pretty much told "you're going to bob jones, and that's final, because it's the only school that will bring you up right."

I've looked over their website, and I didn't see anything about a ban on interracial dating and a 6'' rule...

Somebody help me out, because right now this is looking like just another private Christian institution.

OMG, you are not permitted to watch movies above a G rating (even in a private home off-campus), not permitted to listen to Jazz, Rock, Country or Contemporary Christian music, but you ARE allowed to bring a gun onto campus...

Freshmen are not permitted to work without a prayer captain, assistant prayer captain or upperclassman with them...

If you have a car you can bring it but can't use it (even for travel to and from work) except for driving home...

Sounds like all the makings of a repressed postal worker with a gun to me.

I would agree, but it remains that parents are forcing this system on their kids by sending them to this school. Values are values, but forced values are worthless.

Their parents might try to force them to go to this school, but as adults (as most college students are), they can choose not to go.

True, but who pays for most of college costs? Yep, parents.
