Blizzard's "one major title per year" - D3 2010 or 2011?

*HYPOTHETICALLY* We're almost halfway through 2009. Blizzard says SC2 beta starting out "in the coming months", and god knows how long the beta will last for, so what? Looking for SC2 official release around Xmas 2009 or early 2010? (worst case scenario, mid 2010)

*I'm only in this for D3, don't give a flying water buffalo about SC2*

Where does that leave D3? If SC2 is released early 2010, and they have D3 well finished and polished by late 2010, they will hold onto it just because it's in the same calendar year?
Or does the "one title per year" exclude official beta testing? So D3 beta starts in late 2010 and we have an ironclad definite release of 2011........big time ewww :yuck:, that bunch of numbers stinks!! :banghead:

1. Blizzard, on average, releases a non-xpack title every 2 years.

2. SC2, assuming beta starts in middle of summer, will be out by end of fall if their beta testing trends are followed. However, the desire to get balance right and the introduction of Battle.net 2.0 may delay that. On the other hand, Blizzard has more money, staff, and players this time around which may speed the testing up.

3. Snowball's chance in fire'n'brimstone hell D3 will be out by 2010. At best, a beta by the end of it. It hasn't even been a year since the game was announced. Blizzard typically waits 2 years before the beta even starts for a major product like this.

I agree the chances of seeing Diablo 3 anytime soon is slim. However, their stated goal is to release a game 1.5 years after the game is announced. Why they feel they need to say that, and then fail miserably to meet it, I don't know.

I agree the chances of seeing Diablo 3 anytime soon is slim. However, their stated goal is to release a game 1.5 years after the game is announced. Why they feel they need to say that, and then fail miserably to meet it, I don't know.

Guess it keeps the fans at bay. If they keep releasing new stuff once a week or two, the anticipation for the finished product won't be as overwhelming.

Yeah yeah some people would say "it's just a game DUUUDE", but lots of people get obsessed with ridiculous stuff like Dragonball and Pokemon, and we wouldn't get excited about anything concerning something as officially cool as Diablo? Mah!!!

Although "a little" does go a long way, The Blizzteam may prefer to astonish us with "quality" AND "quantity", regarding content. Not that it makes the wait s**k any less. They may even love to give us false hope, and then when all hope is lost (lots people saying "IF it ever gets released"), like 10-20 years later, WHAMMO the next major update, or an official beta announcement.

Just sux for those that have been regularly checking for updates. Personally I wish I didn't know about D3 yet, until like a month or two before official release. I discovered D3 was official by accident, and I do regret visiting Blizzard.com on that god darned day, mah.

Why'd those punks over at Blizzard have to release all this info so damned premature... its torture. And yea, it would have been nice not to have known until a week or so before. At this rate, when it does get released 3+ years later.. I'll have moved on.. way to market Blizz... king of procrastination!

It was pretty poor form to release an absolute gush of information, and then leave us hanging for the better part of six months now. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll at least get something substantial before Blizzcon, but probably not. Blizzcon will probably introduce a new class, a new act, and some new features, which'll be nice.

Unfortunately at that point, I'll be living in Japan without internet access, likely!

this post pretty much sums it all up for me, if we see a beta by the end of 2010 i will be happy. for now i am happy with reading updates and seeing how the game is progressing

I think they now what they are doing. them teaseing us makes us want it more. i bet this game will set a bigger record than WOTLK did.

I can relate to both of you, i always hoped for a new diablo then when i saw the official anouncement i logged on WOW and spammed the hell out of it so everybody new.

Part of wishes i had no clue, but the other part is happy i know.

I got no time running around chasing D3 ghost anymore. I got my real life issues full of my plate. just look at what the next patch, almighty 1.13 has done to me, we are now in late may and it is no where to be seen, meanwhile nothing in the game stimulate the same anymore...

it is supposed to be a 'content' patch right, so we will have another ubber quest added, maybe at the end of game, fighting all three in the cave in act 1, or the pitt in swamp in act 3... and then after 1.13 is released, 8 months later they will have to do a bug fix patch, reset the ladder, call that 1.14, then 1.5 year later, maybe throw us a 1.15 with main feature "now you don't need your keyboard to play."

they will do their thing regardless what we fans say. if you think your voice will change them, push them work faster, you are probabily wrong. so I rather wait for the final big bang supprise instead of milking it bit by bit. and you get nothing if they won't let you anyway.

and the key is, they know when the shizzle is on the shielf, you will buy it.

Personally, I'm hoping for 1.13 to set the record straight for Diablo single-players (almost certainly the biggest Diablo non-community).

But I hope because I don't know what this patch will contain. What most probably happen instead is they will piss on the single-player component yet once again and leave that percentage of their paying customers with a comparable inferior product, that forces us to use mods and hacks in order to get some juice of the game after 8 years on the shelves.

So... yeah, I'm not waiting for anything really. I prefer to not waste my time and be either pleasantly surprised or resigned to my faith as a single player who have been poorly served by Blizzard in the past years.

EDIT: Oh... and D3... Life taught (read, forced down my throat) the meaning of patience. Besides at my age 2 years mean little.

There average was two years apart, with Diablo, SC, D2, War3, WoW. But this is 6years later. I'd expect the most rational guess would be to take the time they officially announced SC2 and when its released, just add that time to the D3 announcment, and then maybe adjust it 1-3months depending time of the year to get a normal release. (I'd venture Oct/Nov, or June/July.

It will sell like butter by default, likely with a new record. However, I don't know about "they know what they are doing". It's been very silent on the Diablo 3 front. Waiting from BlizzCon to BlizzCon to get any new real information or content isn't what I expected.

Well, it makes sense to me.

You don't go about making a huge event as Blizzcon and spill the beans before it happens. They are just withholding all the juicy bits until the event. Being there it just means you will see it first hand and live. Not being there means you'll know all about it the next day.

No doubt on my mind this year's Blizzcon will bring a lot of new information on D3.
