black runeword in war sceptor or jagged star?

Finally have all the runes to make the black runeword but am not sure which weapon to use it on. I'm a fanatic zealot and have a 3 socket jagged star (20-31 damage fast weapon) and (war sceptor 10-17 damage very fast weapon). Should I use the slower harder hitting weapon or the faster weapon? It took forever to get the Io rune so I don't mind looking for something else if there's an ideal. Seems like the faster weapon would be better for the 40% crushing blow. Also, is knockback ok for a zealot? Thanks.

(black = crushing blow, that's my stance...)

use the war scepter. (even if black didn't have cb, i'd still pick this one over grand scepter (eww, hit a group of monsters with the grand sc and tell me if you get the rush that you feel with a machine gun war-scepter-smacking) )

knockback is ok. for some it's annoying, for others it adds crowd control (like for me, i hate getting mobbed while zeal-locked... of course after you encounter charging monsters, you'll curse kb, then after you encounter exploding monsters you'll bless it again )

thanks! i figured the crushing blow was the important factor so faster is better.

I'd say never use knockback weapons as zealot. You don't need crowd control as long as you hit hard enough and with enough life leech or life tap.

Actually, does Black work on Scepters? Arreat Summit says "3 Socket Clubs/Hammers/Maces"

true... i myself would consider muling the io off to a char who would appreciate black more

still, if you already made it, i wouldn't shun black, it can be good for certain zeal play styles

I was wondering about the knockback, seems pointless for a zealot and I can steal about 16% life when I hit due to gear. Any advice for level 50 fanatic zealot? No twinking or trading. I'm just playing through on single player, on act II nightmare now.

Put this on a knout or a Scourge if you meet the requirement. CB not working as great as most people claim. I would seek a middle ground between speed and power, and Flail type make the perfect choice.

ohoh! so it's a fanat zealot!

take my advice and get the biggest, hurtiest, fastest weapon you can find (with or without shield, pick one) and stick it on him. if i guessed correctly, you should have weapons that fit this description better than any member of the scepter family... (you should not have a scourge yet and i'm sure you can do better than a black knout/war scepter/grand scepter...)

make sure the weapon is hurty for most returns on the life leech...

other advice? get a Act2 offensive nightmare mercenary for his might aura

oh, and play more carefully since it's nightmare

EDIT: @below: i doubt he can get a Lem rune (passion) before hell diff...

I used exceptional uniques for my Zealot in NM, like Hexfire (Shamsir), Butcher's Pupil (Cleaver), Ginther's Rift (Dimensional Blade). If you cannot find those, I guess Black is ok. You may also want to look at Passion Runeword.

Yeah, people give away Butcher and Ginther all the time, or sell them as low as 5 pgems. Check out the trade forum, you might be surprise.

thanks everyone for your help. i ended up putting the runes in the war scepter but it didn't work. even though it was grey and had the sockets it also had a couple of paladin only bonuses. i'm guessing that's why the weapon didn't change and only added the runes. anyway, i have enough runes to make the honor runeword in something if i can find a 5 socket weapon. thanks so much to everyone for advice! off to search for that weapon. thanks again.

o yeah, honor is good! (have you considered installing the RWM/RRM mods over at the single player forum? they give you access to the ladder runewords including the cheap but very powerful 'insight') (should've known and warned you that black only applies to hammer/mace/club-types not to scepter class weapons... damn)

You should be able to make Black with Clubs/Hammers/Maces according to Arreat summit. Indeed, it didn't work on scepter.

For my untwinked single-pass characters, I have made Black in a Knout more often than in all other weapon types combined. They are fast, have range 3, do reasonable damage, require "only" STR 82 and the 3-socket version is quite often available (if you have a Crude one and normalize it, it gets 3 sockets max, so you have 2/3 chance to get 3 sockets with the recipe).
