    Big Marauder's Set Changes Coming

Blizzard added a reply to their PTR Focused Feedback thread, with info about some legendary item bugs and more upcoming tweaks to the Marauder's Set. Big Marauder's Set Changes Coming:

I've just noticed on PTR that Andarials Visage retroactively no longer has a Poison Nova proc. Is this intentional?
Nevalistis: This is a known issue. Several items are missing their Legendary affixes. You can see the full list here.

Finally, we've already got some additional changes pending for the Embodiment of the Marauder. It's great to see that players are enjoying the more active gameplay of this redesign, and we want to further shift the source of damage from your Sentries to your Demon Hunter. To accomplish this, the set bonus order is being shifted around and re-tuned. Bear in mind that tuning on the exact number values will likely continue through the PTR and are not yet final.

Here's our latest anticipated changes, which will be coming to the next PTR patch:

    • 2 Piece Bonus
      • Companion calls all companions to your side.

    • 4 Piece Bonus
      • Sentries cast your Hatred spender when you do.

    • 6 Piece Bonus
      • Your generators, Elemental Arrow, Chakram, Impale, Multishot, and Cluster Arrow deal 100% increased damage for every active Sentry.

    • Some big changes, there. Click through for point by point comparison between the current PTR version of M6, first hand discussion of how it plays (I've tested it a lot the last 2 days), and how the upcoming change will really shift the M6 play style.

Let's track the M6 changes. The The current, much-maligned LIVE version is this:
    • (2) Set: +500 Dexterity
    • (4) Set: Companion calls all companion types to your side.
    • (6) Set: Sentries cast your equipped Hatred spenders.

The first-pass update now testable on the PTR is this:
    • (2) Set: Your generators, Elemental Arrow, Chakram, Impale, Multishot, and Cluster Arrow deal 40% increased damage for every active Sentry
    • (4) Set: Companion calls all companion types to your side.
    • (6) Set: Sentries cast your Hatred spender when you do and deal 100% increased damage.

The coming PTR version is this:
    • (2) Set: Companion calls all companions to your side.
    • (4) Set: Sentries cast your Hatred spender when you do.
    • (6) Set: Your generators, Elemental Arrow, Chakram, Impale, Multishot, and Cluster Arrow deal 100% increased damage for every active Sentry.

Let's analyze this, with hopefully correct math.

Currently on the PTR, you (the DH) gains 40% increased damage for each sentry you have active. AND all of your Sentries shoot your Hatred Spender when you do, for a 100% damage boost. So if you have 4 sentries out that's +160% damage to the DH for 260% damage, while the Sentries deal 200% damage with Spenders. So each time the DH shoots and all of the Sentries also shoot the same Spender, you're dealing a total damage output of 260% + 200% + 200% + 200% + 200% = 1060% damage.

In the upcoming change, a DH with 4 sentries would get a +400% damage boost for 500% damage, while the Sentries can still shoot Spenders, but get no damage boost. So with that same shot your total damage output would be 500% + 100% + 100% + 100% + 100% = 900% damage, with more than half of that coming from the DH herself.

[caption id="attachment_381749" align="alignright" width="259"][IMG] The first rule of the PTR: find nice things you'll miss on LIVE.[/caption]I played a lot of M6 DH last night on the PTR and I'm really enjoying the new build. It feels much more fun and more effective than the current LIVE version, but the damage is still mostly from the Sentries. You need to shoot Spenders for the Sentries to do so, but it doesn't totally matter if you're hitting the target, so long as the Sentries are.

I'll be curious to test out this new version, and while the total damage isn't that different, the upcoming change seems determined to put the DH into more peril. Currently on the PTR I'm shooting at the enemy almost non-stop to keep them using the same Spender. (I'm using Frozen Arrow now, though I'm thinking about experimenting with a new build and Fire damage to use a Cindercoat and a new +fire damage Mara's I found last night). It helps the killing speed if my shots are hitting the enemy, but it's not essential and 2 or 3 Sentries kill quite well even if I'm not contributing, such as when the target is around a corner, in a room I can't get to, on the other side of a Waller, etc.

This upcoming change will change that, greatly lowing the % of total damage that comes from the Sentries, and it's going to make things interesting. Dashing into Elite-filled rooms so I can get direct shots in? Struggling much more with Waller since I can't hit the target? And with the Sentries dealing so much less damage, positioning them will become less important; you'll really just want them all active so you get the damage boost to your own attacks.

    What do you guys think?

holy crap. I tried my DH on PTR. It is already better than live! this is going to make it insane!

I had never done a lvl 30 Grift before on live. With the exact same gear, I changed some skills around. (i was already using chakram with the chakram quiver) I got rid of multishot and went with cluster arrow with the 700% fire rune. I then did a lvl 31 grift in about 8-10 minutes. The only hard part was staying alive. (I'm not the best when it comes to DH survival...don't think I understand the mechanics that great)

regardless, as long as I was careful it wasn't that difficult.

Well, they are trying to address the outlier. No more slow-ball, no more infinite discipline, no more strafe.

They also fixed (ruined) the monk set. Surprised they couldn't overhaul a few other sets in the process.

Indeed there are multiple things at play here, not just the revamped sets. Above GR26 damage is reduced compared to live, density is much increased at all levels and Pylons are plentiful. Furthermore you're less likely to run into long deadends. All these would mean quite a noticeable jump in the GR level you can clear, even without the new items.

Well, back to non-viability for DH in high level content... At least with M6.

Maybe the new set will work better.
